It does a fine job, but I though the blender would be about half the size it is. It's large, like nearly a foot long and quite thick.

I ordered this after seeing Emeril make a soup where he used an immersion blender. Having only used a regular blender in the past for pureeing soups (and avoiding making them because of the hassle!)I ordered this immersion blender. I LOVE IT!! It literally has been sitting on my countertop ever since...I use it everyday. It makes easy work of my morning shakes (right in the included plastic container) despite using frozen bananas and other frozen fruits. And I use it at least weekly to make one soup or another. It cleans up easily and is nice looking too. I've read where some complain about the "cheap plastic teeth" at the connection of blades to handle, but if you attach/detach carefully (and always use the special button for it) I don't foresee any problem with the construction. I can't believe I've waited this long to add an immersion blender to my kitchen repertoire...I doubt I'll be pulling out that cumbersome, loud, hard-to-wash freestanding blender anymore!!

This apparently fancy blender has given to me and my wife the most horrible experience. It broke down for the first time just after the 30-day limit to give it back to the store. The problem is that the junction between the engine and the accessories is made of plastic and melts down after some usage. We then contacted Cuisinart customer service and asked for a substitute. We were charged 17 bucks to have our request handled and the new blender shipped. But, guess what? The new blender came to our place already broken!! Again, it was the plastic junction, which was destroyed before our first usage!!! I was a little bit pissed off by this, and I contacted again Cuisinart customer service. This time, we had the blender replaced for free. Our third blender was the most successful one, and lasted 3 months, before dying again because of problems to the plastic junction. I then gave up losing my time (and my money) in contacting the customer service, and went straight to buy a low cost blender (10 bucks) which is up and running till then.
Even though Cuisinart customer service dealt with my complaints efficiently, I think I will never buy Cuisinart products again.

I *highly* recommend this single-serving blender thingy.

I read all of the reviews before I purchased and was a little wary. I was concerned it might not be very powerful and that it would smell of burning oil (as some reviewers mentioned) when I made my first smoothie. Even so, I figured I would give it a shot at $15 because at that price, if it worked at all, it would prob still be worth it for the convenience. Well, turns out I shouldn't have worried at all.

UPS delivered it 20 minutes ago and I am currently enjoying a tasty, healthy smoothie!

It was so fast and easy and effective: I opened the box; plugged it in; threw in some frozen fruit, coconut milk, juice, ground flax seed and wheatgerm; and then pulsed for about off and on for less than 30 seconds, pulled the cup off the base, and...smoothie!

Works like a dream: No burning, no leaky lid, no irregular-sized chunks, no mess, no problems at all. Just blended fruit and other good stuff, all in a cup that I immediately drink from. I will definitely be more likely to make smoothies with this thing because it's so simple and fast and clean-up is a breeze.

I'm guessing people who smell the burning are not pulsing. The button says "Pulse" on it--and I'm no engineer--but I'm guessing it does so for a reason. The motor is clearly pretty strong and I can see that if you just held the button down for a while it could over heat. But you don't need to do that. It blends great with repetitive pulsing.

I'd had the experience of trying to be too cheap (bought a plastic blender from Wal-Mart for $13), and was worried I wouldn't be able to find anything within my price range that actually worked. This blender wasn't much more expensive, and works perfectly. You just need to add enough liquid to start, and after that it blends ice and frozen fruit with no problems.

If you want to crush ice, get the ice blade attachment 4 out of 5 stars.

A lot of reviewers problems have seemed to be with crushed ice, or frozen fruit. I purchased an ice blade to go along with this (only $10 more) and it crushed everything up in about 4 seconds. My honey was thrilled with it!! We have gone through 2 other blenders this month alone, and I will be shocked if this doesn't last. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is I would've like it better if the glass jar was just a little bigger..... but I wonder if I can just order a bigger one?? I'll have to look! GREAT purchase!

Poor Fitting Design 2 out of 5 stars.

After reading all reviews, we selected this model. We did not like the removable topper at the top of the blender, it was very hard to get on and off and flew across the room a couple of times taking off. Also, the jar did not sit on the base very well, it felt like it was going to come off. The photo is not accurate as the bottom of the jar does not have a black wrap-around based as shown in the photo. We ended up returning to Amazon with no problems.

DO NOT BUY OSTER PRODUCTS. THEY ALWAYS BREAK DOWN ONCE THE WARRANTY ENDS!!!!

Disappointment after disappointment after disappointment. I have tried many of their products and soon after the warranty ended, they all end up in the same place....in the garbage can!

I primarily used this for frozen fruit-based smoothies. It didn't work for my needs, and it was just a very low-quality product. I ended up returning it and getting a BlendTec blender.
* A few times, when I put the blender down on the base, it started blending automatically (SCARY!)
* The lid didn't fit on the container properly, there were gaps on all edges, as if the lid was just a tad too small.
* A rust spot had formed on the top of the blade by the 10th use.
* The container leaked from under the blade from the first use.
* The command buttons were occasionally unresponsive.
* This thing is LOUD for how underpowered it is. My 3-horse power BlendTec is quieter.
* It gave off an odor from the motor or something. Unpleasant.

As for its actual blending capabilities: equally unimpressive. Had to baby the blender constantly. Pulse for 10 seconds, scrape down the sides, pulse, scrape, add more liquid, pulse, scrape, pulse, drink. Frozen fruit smoothies would take about 5-6 minutes to make, having to constantly help the blender do its job. That said, at the end it did achieve a pretty good consistency. On my old Kitchen Aid blender, I always had strawberry seeds at the bottom of my smoothies. This blender seemed to shred them up, so that's one plus (I had to baby my Kitchenaid much less, however).

If you're planning on making smoothies often, just bite the bullet and get a BlendTec or VitaMix blender. They're both high-powered, quality machines that are made in the USA (BlendTec: Utah, VitaMix: Ohio). You'll never need to buy another blender in your life.

Ok... first the leaking carafe has been fixed so don't be swayed by those negative reviews. In fact, I love the carafe - it's all one piece. I make smoothies daily and my last blender had a million pieces to take apart and clean after each use. Granted it was one of those with a spout, which I thought would be great for smoothies. Turned out to be nothing but a gimmick that never really worked properly and just left more to take apart, clean, and no matter what u do bacteria will find its way in there. So I decided to go ahead and spend a little more and get a KitchenAid, which of course we know is typically a brand of high quality. Well, I think it absolutely lives up to it's name! Yes, it is annoying that it throws everything up to the lid at the first start. Meh. I can totally live with that, especially with how well it blends. My fav smoothie is about 8oz fat free milk, 2 tbs of chocolate whey powder or protein powder, a banana (or 2), a scoop of peanut butter, and 2 or 3 ice cubes - yum! It always came out a little chunky with ice (sometimes I throw in some frozen strawberries too), but this blender pulverizes it all!! Smooth and thick like a milkshake - delicious!
I've only had this a week, but I've already used it over a dozen times and I love it! The fact that it is so easy to clean allows me to use it more often. With my last blender, I always knew it would be a chore if I were going to use it. The carafe, although not glass (I was a little disappointed that it wasn't) is dishwasher safe and you don't have to twist anything - it just sits on top of the base. The base is heavy and solid and provides storage for the cord underneath. I'm very happy with my purchase and I recommend it to anyone - especially if you're like me and tend to keep replacing the $30 blender that has a million twist on pieces. Trust me u get what u pay for!
