mind you i've had the blender less than a week but i've been making "ice cream" with it and there's never any ice chunks or unpleasantries left in the jar after i finish blending it. It works fantastic really, sometimes it gets a bit jammed so i pop the little thing off the lid and add some liquid and blends it right in. The design is sleek and looks great as well. So i've used it with ice, frozen fruit, and cottage cheese to make a really thick smoothie and it was great. I've used it to blend veggies and broth for soup, not hard, but again it worked well.

Don't fool yourself into buying a B&D appliance 1 out of 5 stars.

You're not going to be the lucky one who gets a decent amount of use out of this thing. If you're like me, using it on an almost daily basis, it will work for a month or two. One day the blade assembly will magically disintegrate and you'll be looking at a replacement cost, with shipping, of $10 to $15. That means you could spend $100 to keep this thing running for a year, assuming nothing but the blade breaks on a regular basis. Suddenly an $80 Kitchenaide doesn't look like such a bad deal.

Dummies like me buy these things because the nice, heavy-looking glass jar gives the illusion of quality. It reminded me of the blender my parents had for years and years when I was a kid. This is not that blender. For shame, for shame, Mssrs. Black and Decker!

I bought this blender from Sams Club over 3 years ago and it is still working great. I use it every day. I guess some people just got a bad blender. It does crush ice almost as good as the Vita-Mix. I use it to make "green smoothies" because I don't eat a lot and I need to get my fruits and veggies daily. I mix frozen rasberries, blueberries, blackberries, mangos, hemp protein powder, 6 baby carrots, a huge bunch of fresh spinach, and parsley with some pomegranite juice and orange juice and 2 small packages of splenda. It pulverizes the frozen fruits and vegetables to a smooth liquid. Start it out on the lowest setting and let it run because it slowly pulls the ingredients down to the bottom. The directions say to do it that way. Maybe the people whose motor went out started it out on high all the time. Who knows? I thought I needed a Vita-Mix for this but turns out this blender is just as good at no where near the costs.

I bought this immersion blender about a year ago. Used it 4-5 times since then and it worked great. Got it out tonight to puree some baby food and the plastic part that attatches the blending rod to the motor housing is cracked and the blending rod just falls out. So, the motor still works fine but the crappy design makes it impossible to use. Can't find a replacement part online, so now I'm looking for a new one--but across the board these are made with plastic. Even the ones that look like stainless are really chrome covered plastic. It really makes me wonder if all these companies are making these as throw-aways instead of making them durable enough for 10+ years of useage LIKE THEY SHOULD. I am not happy about sending this to the landfill and buying another one. This one should still be functioning!

When my 20+ year old ugly, cheap blender finally broke a second time, I thought I'd splurge and buy a new blender. I found this model on a popular auction site. The metal-looking plastic isn't impressive, but it looks good. The glass jar is nice and heavy, and the interior ribs help make sure that things blend the way you want them to. The lid is a floppy material that's an improvement over the old, rigid lid I had on my old blender.

I wouldn't try and crush ice in this thing. The motor smells like a toy train transformer after a few seconds, but all we use it for is mixing up protein shakes and fruit smoothies, so all it has to do is blend frozen berries. The pushbutton is a good idea, and the range of speeds is more than ample.

Overall I was fairly happy with the purchase. Not a bad value. It does what I want it to do and didn't cost an arm and a leg.

I have had this model for several years at home and have turned out many excellent daiquiris with it. Sturdy as a block of granite, this blender is the commercial grade one you see in use at the local nightclub.

The motor will probably last a lifetime, once you use this one all others become toys.....

TIP: buy both the metal and plastic mixers so you can add variety to the quantity of drinks you're mixing.

I've been limping along with this blender for a few months now. As others have noted, the jar doesn't lock to the base, which is more than annoying--though if I hold it there, it doesn't feel unsafe.

That said, while washing dishes today the jar (empty, disassembled) was gently knocked to the floor from the countertop--a distance of no more than 3.5 feet. Something about the way the jar hit the floor made it shatter into three pieces. The handle came completely off, leaving a jagged hole down the side of the plastic jar. I would think you'd need to smash the thing against the floor (or with hammer) for it to break like this. What's the point of plastic otherwise?

I love this blender. Oster makes really great blenders at a low price. Their motors are strong and the blade is sharp enough to crush ice. The all-metal drive means that you don't have to worry about it breaking down any time soon. The plastic jar is better than the glass ones because they are lighter and won't shatter and break when you drop it since it's break-resistant.
