Very good blender. 4 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I've only had the blender for a couple of weeks, but it is working well. The base (that the blender fits into) is metal, but the piece that goes into the base is made of plastic. It does ice very well. It is very noisy.

awesome blender 5 out of 5 stars.

This blender is awesome! Crushes ice perfectly, blends superbly. Cleans alright. No complaints. It's quieter than we expected, as sometimes good blenders are super noisy; it's loud but not ear piercing. One thing - put some pressure on the lid with your hand when crushing ice!

Editorial Review:

From top to bottom, the Hamilton Beach® Dual Wave™ Blender is all about versatility and power. Versatility because it's a blender that's perfect for making drinks for a crowd and then it's a personal blender that lets you customize and blend two different drinks at once. Power because it doubles up with two sets of blades and two motors for a variety of blending and serving options. The Dual Wave™ Blender switches from an 80-ounce jar to dual 16-ounce single serve jars with ease. At 80 ounces, the pitcher is double the size of most blender jars, yet its powerful dual blades and dual motors (delivering 1000 watts peak power) are able to blend an entire pitcher-full in less than 30 seconds. That means less time blending and more time mingling with guests. With its convenient dispensing spout in place, drinks are served right into glasses, or for traditional pouring, the dishwasher-safe spout can be removed and capped off. When the party's over and it's time for one or two servings, the Dual Wave™ blender is ready to make two totally different recipes. How about a strawberry smoothie for you and a chocolate milkshake for the little one? That's easy. With two blending stations, each with individual speed dial and blade set, one or two drinks can be blended at a time, exactly the way each needs to be. If all this blending power and versatility isn't enough, the Dual Wave™ blender is also equipped with a high-performing Dual Wave~Action® system. This ensures that your ingredients are thoroughly blended for smooth results and no ice chunks every time.

Piece of junk!!!!! 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I have bought over 20 of these blenders over the past 10 years or so to make salad dressing in my restaurant. They all lasted about a year under daily heavy use, which I was really happy with. Oster has now replaced the bottom screw cap of the jar with the flimsiest piece of plastic I have ever seen. I could literally break it into pieces with one hand. I broke the first one within two days. I got another blender locally just to get the bottom cap of the jar and it broke within one hour! I was in a real jam that day because we were open and there were customers flooding in the door, so I bought a third one at the local drug store and it broke too! This product is junk unless they switch back to a stronger cap. I hope they're happy with the 5 cents they save on each blender with the new parts.

Editorial Review:

The Oster 6640-022 10-speed blender is driven by a 450-watt motor that delivers the power required for heavy blending jobs. A 10-speed selection provides options to suit various blending needs. The pulse feature of the blender further ensures precise blending. The blender has PowerBlend stainless steel blades that can be easily removed for cleaning. The six-cup plastic jar is break-resistant and has a lid with a removable measuring cap. An all-metal drive system ensures added durability.

Great Blender - so glad I didn't buy a Vitamix 5 out of 5 stars.
17 of 18 people found this review helpful.

I have got hooked on making protein rich smoothies to help avoid muscle aches and pains after strenuous work outs. (And they really work, at least for me).

I was tempted to buy a VitaMix, but while doing the research, needed to buy something, so ended up with an Oster Mixer Oster 10-Speed Blender - White that I got from Target for about $17. I was amazed at how well it worked, and decided to see how I got on with it, seeing as how at the price it was I could buy a new one every couple of months and still be ahead of the cost of the VitaMix!
As I started to add green leafy vegetables to my smoothies, and make them more viscous, blending became harder work, both for me and for the Oster. While it never gave up, it took its time to do the job, and would smell slightly cooked at the completion.
The thought of having a really nice blender had never gone completely away, so I went back to my research.
The VitaMix looks very attractive, but I could never quite get over the feeling that I was paying considerably more than I needed to to support all the advertising that they do.

I considered the Blendtec, but I was buying something that I wanted to last for a long time, and my experience of membrane keyboards and microprocessor control is that they are terrific when they work, but trying to get them repaired five years after you bought them, often results in a bill that is more than buying a new one, assuming that you can even still get parts to make the repair. Also, I was concerned that learning multiple key presses to do something as simple as turning it on was not a clever idea.

The clincher for me in deciding on the Waring was the cost of the replacement jugs. A 64oz container (with blade) from VitaMix is an astonishing $149, whereas the equivalent part from Waring is only $85. Still a lot of money, but a lot more reasonable, and I think an indication of the better value for money that the Waring offers. Add to that the $100 plus price difference between the Waring and the VitaMix, and I decided to go for the Waring.

The blender has proved to be everything that I hoped. It is simple, solid, and despite some of the reviews here complaining about the noise level, to my ear, less noisy than the Oster I had been using.

As others have said, this is a serious piece of equipment. The motor is very powerful and therefore noisy, but it is a lower pitched less screechy sound than the flimsy Oster made, and as such is easier to live with. Of course, since the blender quickly demolishes everything within it, the noise doesn't last long!

Because the motor is so powerful, the starting torque is very high and the admonition in the instructions to hold the top of the jug down is one to be taken seriously. Ingredients are flung upwards as the machine starts with sufficient force to potentially lift the lid if you don't have it held down.

I am not a cook, so I don't know if anyone else would need more than two speeds and pulse, but I certainly don't. I also don't need to be able to walk away from it and have it complete the process on its own. I enjoy the few seconds of manufacturing that my smoothies take.

I suspect that with all blenders, it makes sense to think about the order in which you load the ingredients. I put liquids in first, followed by soft fruit, vegetables and frozen fruit, and finally ice, and that seems to work well. The instructions say to add ice when it is running, but I haven't found that to be necessary.

All in all, an excellent piece of equipment, where the money seems to have been spent on the quality of the components and simplicity of design, rather than on advertising and flim flam.

Disappointed 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I was looking for a fairly heavy-duty blender that would be able to crush ice for smoothies and mixed drinks. I also wanted the option of the food processor without having to add another appliance to my kitchen counter. I did a little bit of research before deciding on the Cuisinart and really thought that with the Cuisinart name I couldn't be disappointed. But I was. Let me start with what I *like* about the blender:
1. The buttons are sealed so they don't get stuck with sugar or debris.
2. The food processor is quick & easy to attach, the bowl is a reasonable size for small jobs.
3. The pitcher is heavy glass and very sturdy.

What I *don't* like:
1. When I run the blender or food processor the motor always smells like something's burning. May be an internal belt that's slipping--that's what it sounds/smells like.
2. The ice crusher feature isn't as effective as I'd hoped. Often leaves large chunks of ice while the rest gets crushed so small it melts.
3. Doesn't really blend. The blades only swirl the stuff at the very bottom & it takes a lot of jiggling or stirring to get it to pull in the rest of the ingredients on top.
4. VERY loud. For how ineffective this is at actually blending & crushing, it makes an awful lot of noise!
5. The chute for the food processor is direction-specific. What I mean is that the plastic piece you use to push the food down into the bowl is not symmetrical. It only fits in the opening one way and it's not immediately clear how it should be oriented. Annoying when you're trying to put it in quickly before food starts shooting out.

I definitely would NOT recommend this blender to anyone else. It is moderately functional and I can make do, but I'd rather not. I just don't use a blender often enough to justify buying a new one, so I'm stuck with this one for a while longer.

Used it Alot, Wore it Out 2 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I have an elaborate smoothie recipe using wheat germ; flaxseed meal; peanut butter; yogurt; tofu; 2 C frozen fruits, to name a few ingredients. Instructions with this for smoothie recipes in their book helped guide me on how to make a thicker smoothie. This machine did a great job with the challenging recipe I have. I made the smoothie more than once a week usually, sometimes three times or more. This machine did great. I wore it out in almost a year. The motor started smelling when I used it. I tried the pour spout on the front once - didn't like it. The pour spout of the jar could be better (different shape, maybe more pointed) in that my smoothie wanted to pour wide out of it so it was easy to miss the drinking vessel. The biggest con was cleaning and reassembling. The pour spout cap had to be removed to clean the threads. The blade assembly and ring had to be removed and cleaned all over. I had to put water in it before use to check for leaks once it was reassembled, and I often had to loosen and tighten a few times before it wouldn't leak water after being cleaned and reassembled. Dealing with the leaking was a hassle.
