Poor Customer Service 1 out of 5 stars.

I purchased this breadmaker for my sister. There was a problem with it so she called the Breadman company. They told her to cut of the power cord and send it to them and she will receive a new machine. She got a used discontinued model that was dirty and smelled like cigarette smoke. She's been calling the company since January and they have yet to send her a replacement. AVOID THE HEADACHE...DO NOT BUY A BREADMAN!!!

Great breadmaker 5 out of 5 stars.

Love it! Makes great bread everytime. Have had it for 8 months now and use it probably two, three times a week. Easy to clean, looks great on your counter (although I put mine away in the cabinet when I'm not using it). Buy it and begin to dazzle your friends and family with fresh, wholesome bread! GET IT!!!

yummy 4 out of 5 stars.

That's TWO duds. 1 out of 5 stars.

We purchased the Breadman TR2200B online (Amazon) less than a year ago (December 27th, 2005). About six weeks ago it failed. It carried a one year warranty. When if failed, it sounded like it was going to destroy itself and then just quit working.
We contacted the manufacturer, Maxim/Toastmaster. They requested we send the unit in for evaluation. So I went and found a box, packing material, and boxed it up and shipped it off.
About a month later we received a replacement unit. It was a different model, a TR2500BC. The packing slip stated, "NO STOCK REPLACED WITH RTR2500BC AND COMPLIMENTARY COOK BOOK"; and it came with a 30-day warrantee.

It looked nice; but in about two weeks it also quit. The control panel doesn't work. The unit is useless.

I attempted to go to the manufacturer's website for a phone number. The site is offline (unavailable). I called the 800# on the packing slip which came with the replacement machine. Their office is closed, it's Saturday.

This is TWO defective machines from this manufacturer. I simply don't have time to be searching out packaging, packing up and shipping off units. I didn't pay to do that. I paid to get a quality product I could use.

I'm out the original purchase price, and really can't afford to put anymore time into it. Guess I learned a lesson, or two.

Disappointed 2 out of 5 stars.
8 of 9 people found this review helpful.

Just received my Breadman TR4000 and quite honestly, I am very disappointed.

I made the basic white bread recipe first, as recommended, and had to get a flashlight to see the LCD panel of instructions. I also scraped the unmixed flour out of the corners of the breadpan during a pause as recommended and could not remember having to do this on my much less expensive now long gone bread machines that I had purchased in the past.

The first loaf of bread was somewhat of a shock as I lifted it out of the breadmachine and carefully slid the bread out onto the cooling rack. The bottom and sides were done beatifully but the top was a pale color and wrinkled and funny looking. While I made the 2lb loaf, it had risen above the pan and pushed against the glass window. I was certainly glad I didnt attempt the 2.5lb loaf.

The size and shape of the loaf was also disappointing. The loaf was as tall as it was long and when it was barely cool enough to slice I got out my electric knife and my bread holder/slicer to test the inside of the loaf. Perfect! The bread was evenly baked and the textue was perfect. I grabbed one slice, buttered it up, shared it with my husband, and we enjoyed a very good piece of bread. I laughed tho as I looked at the slices. I mused that I could cut those slices in half width wise and make regular sized slices of bread with no crust on one side. That could be a solution to this very oddly shaped, taller than it was long, loaf of bread.

Next day I pulled out all the ingredients for banana walnut bread. What a disappointment that was. I carefully followed all the instructions, and during the pause, lifted the pan out of the breadmaker and folded in A LOT of flour that had not mixed into the batter. I then reached into the sticky batter as instructed and pulled out the paddle, placed the pan back into the breadmaker and touched the resume button. The bread came out very heavy, and took much much longer than quick breads normally take. I sliced off a couple of pieces and found there were lumps of unmixed flour chunks scattered throughout the bread. Now I fully realized that I may have done something wrong to create a too dense, too heavy quick bread, but this bread was anything but quick, and the unmixed chunks of flour were the fault of the machine, not me!

Why Salton, after all their years of experience making bread machines would design a state of the art machine with an odd sized bread pan and only one paddle to mix an area that should obviously have two paddles is beyond me. Another very irritating feature is the LCD pad. Make sure you keep a flashlight right next to your breadmachine!!

Don't waste your money on this one.

Fantastic !! 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a bread makers dream. This is a bread maker that is high tech., yet simple to use. It has many features not avaiable on other makers, (and I've gone through two others). This machine allows you to customize the bread you want to make, various types and batters, sizes and crusts...and more.
It has a hard crust feature to replicate the European crusts. It even does bagels that come out as bought at the deli.
Sultan, the manufaturer, has another great product.
You won't be diappointed with this machine.

Good Performer, Great Customer Service 4 out of 5 stars.

We purchased this breadmaker several months ago. It does a fine job making bread. So far, we only used the "Basic" modes to make white and wheat varieties. The first impression is "small loaves", but each slices into 10 or 12 "normal" sized slices, so when you consider the ease of making them, it's fine. The controls are basically clear, but a little awkward, due to the need to step sequentially through the various modes for the two sides (don't overshoot, or you get to do it some more). Independant controls for each size would be easier.

A hint on removing the small paddle that ends up being baked into the bread, use a plastic picnic type knife to cut around the hole and extract the paddle (careful when hot). The plastic blade will avoid scratching the non-stick coating on the paddle (don't ask me how I learned that trick). After a few loaves, you'll become quite adept at the surgery.

What prompted me to write this review was due to an initial frustration using the machine. On two occasions, the controls "froze" and I couldn't figure out how to fix it. The first time, I unplugged the machine for several hours. The second time, I called the consumer support phone # published in the manual. After working through 3 telephone menus of "Press 1 for..." I was talking to a real person, and as a pleasant surprise, she had a real mid-western USA accent. She helped me figure out how to reset the machine (hold down the "Start/Stop" button for a few seconds.) and I was back in business.

A good bread machine but... 3 out of 5 stars.
46 of 46 people found this review helpful.

I've been using this machine for about three years. The breads are really good, but I have some issues: if for any reason do you want to stop the machine, you have to re-start the whole process again; the kneading process is too strong and takes too long. I also don't like the big hole in the breads. I take care of my kitchen appliances very well, but the chrome is starting to show some brown spots. If you don't have another option, this is a good machine.

Editorial Review:

The bread machine is truly a boon for the home baker who doesn't have a lot of extra time, but who still wants the unbeatable taste of homemade bread. ChefMate's 2-pound automatic breadmaker is focused on delivering a nice loaf without any struggle. It mixes, kneads, rises, and bakes bread automatically, with 10 different settings (including a special setting for whole-wheat bread) and a choice of 2-, 1-1/2-, or 1-pound loaves. This bread machine is pre-programmable, meaning it can bake a loaf while you're at work or sleeping--though you shouldn't use this option if using ingredients that spoil. Other nice features on this breadmaker include the ability to make cakes and jams, a beeper that tells when to add fruit and nuts, a cooldown feature, and an extra-large window that allows you to watch the bread progress. It's also compatible with most prepackaged bread mixes, which is nice when you're in serious hurry. --A.J. Rathbun
