I wasn't sure what to expect, but I gave it a try and I love this! It works so well that I had foam in less than 10 seconds, really. The only thing to be aware of is not to overfill your mug, because it's a mini-tsunami otherwise.

The Aerolatte is fine. Don't expect a stand. I ordered one with a stand and received one without a stand, returned it since I wanted a stand and had paid for a stand, then received another without the stand, then, when I inquired, gave up since I was told there was a "widespread problem" involving the stand and I was invited to return the second one for a refund.

We owned this little gadget for all of 5 days before it tipped over on the counter and shattered upon impact with our countertop. What a total bummer. When we first got it I did think it seemed tippy; it's quite tall and skinny, and doesn't have any kind of base or foundation like other Bodum glass containers, which would have helped stabilize it more.

For those five days, though, it did make very good foam in 30 seconds, as promised. I checked Bodum's site and they sell extra glass containers for $10. Obviously they must know how easily this thing breaks. Not sure why it needs to be glass; it could be plastic and wouldn't make a difference on performance or looks.

Didn't spring for the $10 extra glass beaker. I'll just think of this a $20 mistake.

I've had several hand frothers (admitted coffee geek here). The two-battery ones (areolattes) died quickly, and other four-battery ones are more expensive. I even "built" a 4 battery frother out of a used Bonjour Turbo cuisine, and one of my leftover whisks from the broken areolattes. When that rig started falling apart, I looked at the various 4 battery options. Despite some of the other reviews, I went for this one, figuring I could always rig in an old frother whisk if I didn't like the frothing disk.

I am so happy with it, I just bought a spare.

The battery insertion is tricky, you have to figure out on your own which of the two batteries have the plus side (button) up, into the lid (where there are plastic ridges so that you'd "know" that the negative side wouldn't work).

I love the disk vs. the typical whisk. It stays much cleaner (I use it to mix other stuff), and I've had no problem frothing skim milk. You have to follow the directions and move the disk up and down in the milk to get the best results.

Big Mistake. This takes four AA batteries versus the Primo Latte's two. The included instructions illustrate putting batteries in one way, the frother's battery compartment labels indicate a different arrangement:

Once I put batteries in according to the internal label,... nothing happened. Switch didn't do anything. Tried several sets of fresh batteries. Nothing. since the batteries are fixed, and the top (with upper battery contacts and switch) rotates onto the frother, I played around with degrees of closure, finally settling on the clear "closed and locked" position. Then I whacked the mixer gently, and something "clicked" into place -- suddenly the frother jumped to life. Clicking the switch did nothing. The frother had to have batteries removed to stop it.

Upon inspection I saw that there are four small screws just adjacent the battery contacts, a really dumb design. I suspect that the screws were shorting out the power (the previous model's switch simply completed a circuit from the batteries in series to the motor). I screwed these in as firmly as they'd go, and they still exhibited this design flaw. Back to Amazon after 15 minutes of use. Oh, and these frothers work better with NiMH batteries (which I use in my video), so with normal alkaline batteries, this model didn't even froth milk. If you buy any Bonjour frothers (I'm getting another Primo Latte frother), use NiMHs.

Cons:
Battery compartment and instructions contradict;
Won't turn on with batteries in, or
Turns on with batteries inserted, without pushing switch, and
Doesn't turn off until batteries are removed;
Harder to remove from stand than previous model;
Frothing disc does a poor job of frothing milk.

Pros:
Has a stand.

This is the third purchase I've made on Amazon.com for a Back to Basics hot cocoa maker. I've purchased two of the smaller size models in both plastic and stainless steel. They enable me to heat and serve hot milk lattes, hot cocoa and even chai. All of these B2B products share one basic and fundamental design flaw--they do not have a non-stick surface and are impossible to keep clean after the milk burns and scalds onto the bottom metallic heating plate. Other than that they are quite perfect in a variety of ways:

1. quickly and thoroughly mixes your ingredients (if you are making hot cocoa or anything else you'd like to have hot and well mixed)
2. creates a nice rich frothy foam on top of the milk in the container that you can then spoon onto drinks and top off your beverages (lattes, hot cocoa, machiattos, etc.).
3. maintains a constant hot temperature of your beverage over time that is safe enough (~140 degrees) for extended holding periods when you choose to both mix and hold your hot cocoa, milk or other mixture in the pitcher itself and leave it sitting atop the heating motor...

However, you pay a steep price every time you use one of these to it's full potential--scraping burnt milk off the bottom of the container that has built up on and adhered onto the metal heating plate.

I've contemplated some ideas to get around this scalded milk issue: I called Focus Electrics Group LLC and talked to them about the problem, asking that they develop up a non-stick product line (they said they'd discuss it at their next design meeting) but they offered no solutions and asked me to tell them if I found one! The possible home fixes I've thought of but not yet tried so far are:

a. spray the heating plate with PAM or another odorless, tasteless non-stick application each time
b. immediately empty the container when the mixture is done and do not use it to dispense or hold any milk products (i.e. mixing only)
c. try to season the heating element with a non-stick coating, like a cast iron skillet (doubtful because you have to heat the element hotter than it currently goes when making hot chocolate and the plastic container it is set in would melt).

The simple facts are that using these B2B products requires quite a bit of ongoing cleaning effort for a very good result. It leaves you enjoying the fruits of your labor but then wishing for much better at cleanup.

I'm frustrated enough to write a review because I believe such a good product could be a great product. However, apparently the company doesn't care as much as I do, or maybe they've found it's just too expensive to put a non-stick coating onto their products (and of course fix the other durability issues cited by other reviewers). Unfortunately, I'm currently returning my 60 ounce unit to Amazon because it stopped heating milk... yes, the paddle still spins, but no hot anything anymore.

So this product gets three stars in a cursed / blessed existence--I still want the muddled value from it because I can't find anything else out there to do the job it can do and that I want done. I wish this company or a competitor would figure this out because I'd gladly pay double for a better unit that actually worked like a charm and lived up to the potential of what this product can do in fits and starts...

I've had several frothers and this is the strongest, fastest churning frother I've owned. I don't like frothers that have the on/off button as a slider that can't do quick bursts or that isn't on top or where your fingers or thumb naturally fall. This one has the button conveniently on the top and works perfectly for quick bursts.

Definately recommended.

First of all I love the classic design of the thing.
It's made of porcelain and looks as if from the fifties (the lid and top are plastic though).
So here we go: heat full fat milk (sorry for all those skim freaks, love my cappuccino with the full flavor), pour it into the thing, (put on Ohio Players' Fopp) and start frothing.
Before you know it you'll have the creamiest milk you can imagine.
Pour it onto your coffee/espresso, add brown sugar and cacao as a topping, put on Pavarotti and you're in Roma sipping the best cappuccino (well, almost...)
Since it is a cup, you can also add the coffee and drink it from this. But I prefer it the other way around.
If you have a few Neuhaus truffles in the house, have those too ... hmmmm delicious!
To heat the milk you can of course also put the cup in the microwave but since I don't want such a unromantic thing in my house I can't and won't.

This little frother that uses 2 AA batteries works great. I no longer need to go to Starbucks to get good frothed coffee! This is a better design in many ways than the original frother which used 4 AA batteries and had a spinning disc that looked like it could double as a Dremel tool. That one worked well, but if you touched your mug with it, marred the ceramic glaze.

This is a much better design, like a mini wisk, and it is a really good price.

I have owned it for about a week now, and wasted almost a liter of milk trying to work some froth. I have tried different kinds of milk (low fat, non fat, full fat) and at different temperatures. No USE.

The handle is not too convenient to hold and first things first, it doesn't make any froth.. I am returning it in a day or two.. Save your money, buy something else..

Earlier, i had a similar one (another make) and used to work just perfectly. Too bad, i had given it a friend when i moved from Europe.. I regret that decision even more than buying this hopeless product.

Its heavy, good looking and absolutely useless.

I find this frother works quite well. I use organic non-fat milk and microwave 6 ounces in a glass measuring cup for 1 and a half minutes on high. This warmed the milk to 165 degrees F. After pouring the heated milk into the frother, I apply 100 strokes on the plunger and let the foam stand for at least a minute before using.

I have used this for a month with repeatable results, so I have experienced much better success than the 1-star review previously posted. This frother seals much better than the glass variety with only a little foam escaping at the lid seam. After having 2 glass frothers crack, I feel this is a much safer option.
