I love my Mr. Coffee coffee and espresso maker. I was daunted by some of the negative reveiws it received, but I went ahead and purchased it anyway, because it was the only one I could afford. What a great machine! It does everything just like it's supposed to; it was so easy, I didn't even have to read the directions. The only thing I couldn't figure out at first was how the milk frother worked. I did not realize, (stupid me!) that of course you have to add MORE WATER THAN YOU NEED for the espresso, so that the EXTRA can be used for steam. Duh!!
I do not have a problem with coffee spilling everywhere, because I raise the lid with my thumb when I pour. And I think that the coffee is hot enough. Of course, I don't like my coffee scalding hot, either.
All in all, if I had it all to do over again, I would have done it sooner, and not spent so much time wondering and worrying about it. It truly is a remarkable machine for the price.

Great Coffee/Okay Espresso - Poor Heating 2 out of 5 stars.

I got this machine as a Christmas present in December 07 and after using it for over a 1 1/2 years, there are some valid statements in the current reviews. On first opening of the box, I was disappointed in the cheap design of it. The majority of it is plastic, except for the arm, drip grill, and drip dispenser. For $300, I thought it would be designed better.

When I first got it home, I was excited to try and it and have to say it took me a couple of times to figure out the loading of the espresso. The instructions say that a max of 2 cups (using the provided measuring spoon) should be used. What they didn't say is that you have to make sure the arm 'locks' in place to disperse the espresso correctly instead of it draining into the grounds disgard bin and then overflows into the drip drain. This can get messy and it took a couple of times for me to figure it out. In reading other reviews, everything they say is accurate. It is easy to maintain, it does need to be cleaned, but I had it for 1 1/2 years and cleaned it once a week, if not every two weeks. Having the disgard bin is nice and makes it easy for a quick cup of Crema Coffee in the morning if espresso is not your thing. The frother wasn't worth a darn and I ended up warming up my milk via my microwave. Until the power button went out, I had to heat up the coffee in my microwave for 30 secs daily.

Ultimately, in asking the question 'Would you buy it again', the answer is no. I am looking for a single-cup coffee brewer, probably the Breville. Breville BKC600XL Gourmet Single-Cup Coffee Brewer

The price ($252 + shipping) was attractive. So far so good. Breweing regular coffee is no problem, however, need to master the espresso part. Reading the instructons manual is a must.

We bought this for our anniversary to retire our 18 yr old Bunn coffee maker & have the luxury of also having espresso. Maybe we should have known better as most coffee makers with espresso features are very expensive. It worked for 8 months & totally quit. We followed instructions & sent to to a service center in IL, not a cheap thing to ship. We received no acknowledgment that the machine was received by anyone - no note, email or anything. The 18 yr old Bunn brought back into service. In 5 weeks it just came back and it worked for 2 months & died again. A friend told me to write the company as perhaps I just got a "lemon", after reading other reviews it is evident that this is more the norm & I am not willing to pay another $30 to ship this anywhere. I also found the machine difficult to program, the coffee never hot enough and the lid on the pot was very tricky to get on right. We bought it at Crate & Barell and probably should tell them they should not stock this machine maybe that will get through to Krups.

I did a lot of research on the machines & discs/pods, & read most of the reviews, good & bad, on the Braun Tassimo, Keurig & Senseo machines, plus a few cheap ones. The only thing that held me off was the few bad reviews/complaints. But I finally ended up getting this Tassimo, even though it was more expensive, for the reason that it does everything. The other machines I looked at mainly do only coffee or coffee & tea, while this unit does coffee, latte, cappuccino, tea & hot chocolate. I didn't get it to make coffee, I got it to make everything with a single system.
There is little to no clean up (rinsing the pierce unit after a milk disc & emptying the drip cup takes only seconds), no pot to clean, no grounds, no pouring water into the unit (& all over the counter) because the clear water container snaps off for rinsing/filling, & there are 3 stores in my area (& I live in a very small town) that carry the discs plus I also ordered some from CoffeeForLess, which arrived quickly. The sound doesn't bother me either, as others have mentioned, because it lasts only a few moments, & I was already used to the coffee machine at work which grinds the beans (& sounds like an airplane taking off). I like being able to drink something different every day & have recommended this unit to friends.
The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the price (more than the others) & the size (just wish it was a little smaller).
One final note - I mentioned this machine to the Doctors where I work & they immediately decided to get one for our lounge & also considering it for the lobby out front for the patients to use to have a variety of drinks available.

I loved this machine until it stopped working at 2 months with no warning. The expresso portion worked will except for the difficulty of fitting the frothing cup under the steamer. The coffe portion stopped functioning 2 months after purchase.

My wife doesn't drink coffee, so it is appropriate to say "I" received the XP1500 as a wedding gift. Like others, the SECOND TIME I made espresso, the handle cracked on the espresso grounds holder from the normal pressure of turning it into place. Customer service assured me that they could do nothing unless I had the receipt. This was two years ago, and the machine was a brand new item, so there should have been no question to the age of the machine for warranty purposes, but I had no receipt since it was a wedding gift. They wouldn't even pay the shipping for a new holder. In short, they wouldn't budge, and if I wanted a new grounds holder, I would have to pay full cost to do so. So I kept it, being very careful over the last couple of years to not turn it too hard. Today, it broke further, rendering it useless. To be fair, I have tried to make espresso and cappucino many times, but I have never been able to get a truly good cup from this machine.
Other problems: the frother is too low. You need to angle the milk cup too much to be useful. A half cup of cold milk will turn into a counter full of frothed milk when it's done.
You're better off researching all products and choosing one that is made with better materials, has better reveiws for the quality of the resultant coffee, and going with a company that has BETTER CUSTOMER SUPPORT. There's a reason that "customers who purchased this product also purchased..." "...REPLACEMENT ITEMS!!!"

I purchased this upgrading my previous version which died. It makes good coffee and good espresso but it cannot froth milk. The milk leaks between the o-ring seals of the red regulator where the milk and steam are mixed. I have replaced every single part of the milk container, regulator, o-rings, tube and nothing worked. I was told to take it to their service center. I took it there and after over a month he requested a new machine. The new machine arrived today and as I tried the frothing, it leaks milk from the top of the red regulator which prevents it from making frothed milk. It seems like the regulator and the seals are not made for this machine. I see an uneven gap when I look at it carefully.
I didn't intend to pay $145 for just a coffee machine. I have been using DeLonghi for the past 10 years and I bought this model for the automatic frothing system which doesn't work.

DO NOT buy this model.

This is a great coffee maker - especially for someone like me who wants to make only 1 mug at a time. I've tried all different kinds of coffee makers, but they don't seem to be optimized for making a single ~8 oz mug of coffee. I always ended up brewing multiple cups of coffee and throwing the extra away to get the one good cup I wanted.

I got this aeropress about 1 year ago and it is great. I followed the initial instructions, but preferred my coffee a bit different. So, I experimented with grind, water temperature, amount of coffee/water, etc., until I found the right combination for *my* personal preference. I use this to make a cup of coffee, not espresso (that is, I add water to the result to get "regular" coffee), so I can't comment on the quality of espresso taste. I have noticed that coffee beans/grind from different sources have their own "sweet spots" for best grind and coffee/water quantity to get the taste I prefer. So, now that I know how I like to brew a couple different types, I try to stick with those so that I don't have to go through the experimenting stage needed if I try a completely new coffee bean/grind. That works for me. This coffee tastes great. :)

Oh, I should mention that I have also used french press coffee makers. I really like the taste of french press coffee, but got sick of the grinds and/or sediment that always ends up in the bottom of the coffee and made the bottom of the cup taste gross. True to it's advertising, the aeropress doesn't seem to leave grinds or sediment. I sip my cup kind of slowly and end up zapping it in the microwave to heat it up again several times. The coffee does not get bitter from sitting in my mug because there is not coffee grind sediment soaking at the bottom. That is a huge plus for me!

A few folks mentioned that the plunger can be hard to press. I have to agree. I've had 2 shoulder surgeries and it does take some extra effort to manage to push the plunger straight down. I can still do it, although I only have 2 scoops of coffee grind in at a time. I think it would be extremely difficult to press with too much coffee in it.

One year of daily use, including travel, and there are no problems, no parts wearing out from stress, no cracks in the plastic. It still looks like new.

I donated my drip coffee machine, french press and espresso machine to Goodwill. :)

PS - I noticed the aeropress is available via third party vendor and Amazon. I can't comment on the vendor, as I put it on my wishlist for Xmas last year and got it as a gift. I noticed there are separate reviews for each device/vendor, so will post my review under both.

This Krups model is strictly mediocre. The expresso feature can not be used concurrently with the brew feature. Nore can the milk steamer be used while the brew feature is on, therefore you must brew coffee, turn off the coffee pot (thereby rebdering the coffee cold), turn on the milk frother or exresso maker, wait for it to warm up to make either expresso or steamed milk.....not a good system at all.

Having used this Krups product for several years, my sole complaint is its very poor design.

For example, on the espresso side, the two (2) brew head gaskets (hard rubber) become loose which results in the leaking of hot water from the boiler. These gaskets ARE NOT available as replacement parts - the entire boiler assembly must be replaced. An approximately $100 repair for a few dollars parts!
