"1-cup" equals two ounces! 2 out of 5 stars.
0 of 4 people found this review helpful.

It's really cute but it won't make a cup. It'll make at most two ounces. It's only like four inches tall. I was hoping to be able to make enough for two people to have a few ounces so I guess I'd need to buy the 3-cup.

It's a classic and makes a great cup of coffee 5 out of 5 stars.

About 50 years ago I worked for a few months in a coffee house in Dallas, TX. I recall that we made the coffee using Bialetti coffee makers just like the ones that are produced today. It's a classic design that has been often copied. I like a strong cup of coffee and sometimes use a French press device, but more often I used this 6-cup Bialetti. I have also used the 3-cup Bialetti and actually find it makes a slightly better brew, but I want a bit more coffee in my cup than the 3-cup version produces.

easy-pleasy Italian coffee 5 out of 5 stars.

This li'l jasper makes some great coffee and it's so easy, too. And fun. It's also fun to read the English instructions, trans. from Italian: "suitable for the food use and right for the gas cooker, the electic [sic] plate and the pyroceram." And Don't put too much water in the "little tank"!!! This coffee maker also has the "Little Man" emblazoned on it to "guarantee of the genuine article." I was worried...(The "Little Man" resembles the old Pizza Hut character from the 60's, and in French is called "Pere Moustache!") I'm glad they spent their time and resources building a good product and not on stupid marketing efforts.

Right out of the box, didn't work 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I guess I would have given this item zero stars if I could have, because I never got it to turn on, right out of the box! It comes with its own "new" batteries and a little flexible plastic tab that you are instructed to remove to activate them, but it never did turn on. Even after replacing with brand-new batteries, item still would not work. Very disappointed... will be returning.

Froth Froth and Froth 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I just received this item and used it a few times. I am very impressed with the foamy froth produced by this small appliance. I had previously tried a coffee/cappucino maker with a steam frother and it was awful. This little appliance makes my coffee just like the cafe ole I enjoyed while in Spain. It is so easy to use; I placed a small amount of milk (skim plus) in my regular sized mug, microwaved to warm about 20 seconds and frothed. Then I poured the coffee on top of the froth. There is so much froth it is still in the cup after the coffee is gone. Also important is it takes only a tiny space on the counter, the stand is perfect, would recc only to buy with a stand.

Editorial Review:

The original steam free milk frother from Aerolatte is now available in an attractive and durable stainless steel casing. The Aerolatte comes complete with a stainless steel stand to display next to your home coffee maker. Working directly in the mug or glass, the stylish Aerolatte milk frother takes just 20 seconds to turn a small amount of hot or cold milk into the perfect froth for cappuccinos, caffe lattes, mochas and specialty coffees as well as hot chocolates, malts and milk shakes. Two AA batteries are included. Experience Aerolatte!

Cheap plastic parts breaks easily 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This coffee pot is easy to use, makes decent coffee, and makes more cups than most of the pots you find.

However, it is cheaply made. The hinge for the pot lid is shockingly poorly made, out of a teensy plastic piece that popped off after only a couple of gentle months use. Without the top, this coffee pot is useless because the top of the pot tells the coffee maker when to work and and when to stop-if you pick up the pot during brewing it puts the brewing on hold until you replace the pot.

The cheapness is very disappointing.

meh... 3 out of 5 stars.

i bought this for work. it brews coffee, but that's it.

it is too tall for my cubicle. i can't open the top all of the way without hitting the top bins. so i had to turn it sideways to put water in it.

the power cord is all of 1.5 feet long. crap.

the moving sprayer means you need perfect coffee filter sizes or it scrunches them all up.

it does pour great though. drip free. keeps the coffee hot. tastes pretty good.

2nd Broken Coffee Pot !! 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Great product "WHEN" it worked !

The second Cuisinart DCC-2000 Coffee-on-Demand 12-cup Programmable Coffeemaker I purchased in the last two years just died today ... (each one cost me apprx $100)

I'm disappointed that I wasted my hard earned money on a $100 coffee pot that only lasted one year. I really did love the product so much that when the 1st one broke I just assumed it was a lemon - so I bought a second one.

Now I see other people on the Amazon web-site with complaints about the same thing happening to them and that's even worse! I now strongly believe that Cuisinart must know about this defect but keeps selling it anyway.

I always thought the Cuisinart brand name was excellent ... I don't think that any longer ... I will never buy another product with there name on it.

Editorial Review:

Cuisinart introduces coffee without the carafe! The Coffee on demand coffeemaker has a simple "press to serve" lever that delivers up to 12 cups of hot coffee, cup by cup, from a double wall reservoir. Our exclusive Coffee gauge on the front of the unit counts down the cups remaining. With 24-hour programmability, auto shutoff, professional brushed stainless steel housing, and clean, contemporary styling, this is one of the easiest-and almost elegant- coffeemakers on the market.

BEST. $40. SPENT. EVER. 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

LOVE THIS MACHINE!!!!!!!!! I used to be a Starbucks latte drinker and my venti would cost 4.89 plus 1.00 tip. I used to do this 1-2x daily!!! I am not a huge fan of coffee perse, so I always was into the super sweet concoctions with lots of espresso. My husband was also good for 2-3 starbucks dbl shots/day. We figured we were spending easily 110.00/week (almost 500.00/month!!!). Now I buy the starbucks syrup and beans and make all of our drinks from home.
This little, inexpensive machine is AWESOME. So easy to use, sturdy, and quick. I have used machines before but my husband (who cant use a manual can opener, to be noted) only took two tries to master it. VERY USER FRIENDLY :o)He makes his own every morning. The frothing wand works well and Ive had no problems. Im actually shocked at some of the reviews and am going to blame individual machine malfunction or operator error.
Im writing this review because Im online ordering one for a friend. GREAT BUY!!!

This machine will pay for itself in 8 drinks and save you money while you enjoy it!!

Outstanding & Beautiful 5 out of 5 stars.

It is now over a year since I've purchased this percolator (5/09) and I absolutely LOVE it. It is sleek and beautiful on the counter. The easiest coffee maker I have ever used and makes a fabulous cup of coffee. I grind my own beans and it does a marvelous job of perking a fantastic cup of coffee.

My individual quirk ... just wish the perking top were made of clear glass ... just my childhood nostalgia
! Anyway it is a great coffee maker and one I highly recommend.

I'LL TAKE MY COFFEE WITHOUT PLASTIC PLEASE! 2 out of 5 stars.

Fast brew with 12 cups taking 12 minutes is great when you need that cup of Java in a hurry. Good choice if you prefer your coffee without plastic please! With most coffeemaker's made from plastic it dawned on me that piping hot water running through plastic or sitting in plastic overnight meant it had to be going into my cup. If given a choice, my preference is no Plastic or Polymer in my food and beverages. This stainless steel percolator is a good choice, however, after six months of usage all the cleaning in the world could not remove the metallic taste.

Editorial Review:

Made from luxurious stainless steel. Makes 4 to 12 cups of rich, flavorful coffee automatically; a cup a minute. Signal light tells when coffee is ready to serve. Attractive, traditional styling - ideal for table service.

Great machine for the price point! 4 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I purchased this item 2 months ago and have been using it daily ever since. Previous posters were correct on the steamer wand (it IS a bit restrictive, I suggest purchasing one of the smaller frothing pitchers rather than a big one). Also, it *DOES* put out a lot of water through the steaming/frothing wand when you first turn it on, but you can get around that (more on that later).

It DOES produce a FABULOUS Espresso shot, Cappucino, Latte's, it tastes MUCH better than Starbucks to me and it only took me two attempts to get my technique down to where it's NOT a problem.

1. Loading coffee. I use half and half Lavazza in the can with the mark on it that has the Espresso picture and half any local bean ground to a #3 setting in the store - my preference is for Blue Jamaican. Put the local ground half in FIRST, then put the Lavazza in on top of that.

2. Tamping. This is NOT a "press as hard as you can" thing. I use the double size grind basket, and a full scoop looks just SLIGHTLY rounded ABOVE the top edge BEFORE I tamp it, using a light "tapping" force like I'd knock on a door lightly. Tamp it LEVEL with the top of the basket, then use your finger to wipe around the EDGE of the basket top to get rid of the grinds that are on the edges where it will seal. Keeping the seal clear of grinds will prevent leaking.

3. Turning on the machine for warmup: I put it on STEAM first. This is important. Don't open the steam knob yet, just let it warm up and give you the green light in the STEAM setting. Put a towel under the steamer wand. Once the light is green, open the steam valve and watch the water come out of the wand for 5-10 seconds until it's all STEAM. This will purge the tube of water AND give you a nice warm steam rag to clean the wand AFTER you're done. When it's STEAM coming out, turn the valve back off and switch the machine to Espresso and wait for the light to go green again.

4. Brew Espresso as directed. It will LOOK like it's foamy coming out. Once it SETTLES in the cups for a few seconds, you will see it is mostly espresso with a nice layer of Crema on top (assuming you have the glass tumblers that are available on Amazon pretty cheaply - worth it!) Don't worry that you have to manually turn it on and off, this takes about 30 seconds, just sit there and watch it, not a big deal.

5. Switch back to steam mode, wait for green light again. Put milk pitcher under frothing wand, froth your milk, then make your Lattte / Cappucino as desired. Hint: If you like a hot Latte like I do with a creamier taste, I microwave the milk first for a minute. This gets the milk up to temperature to where, by the time it's frothed LIGHTLY, with a minimum of water/steam added into the milk, it's hot.

All of the above takes me about 5-7 minutes.

All in all, I'm HIGHLY satisfied with this machine and would DEFINITELY recommend it. Heck, I bought one for my dad for Father's Day. :)

Cuisinart lets you prepare gourmet quality espresso at home! With a system that allows you to pre-select serving size, 15 bars of pressure for maximum flavor and the option of using ground espresso or pods, you're in control. A separate steam function and stainless steel nozzle make it easy to froth milk for cappuccinos and smooth lattes. With a removable drip tray and cover, and a filter holder with a locking mechanism clean up is quick and easy.

The Quest for a Perfect Espresso

It is generally agreed that there are four basic elements critical to the perfect cup:

Element 1: WATER

When brewing espresso, make sure the water flows through the filter at the correct pace. The water flow can be adjusted by varying the pressure with which the coffee is taped in the filter or by altering the grind of coffee. If the speed of the water is slow the coffee will be over extracted and will be very dark and bitter, with a spotted and uneven creme (froth) on the top. If the speed of the water flow is too fast, the coffee will be under-extracted and the supreme flavor will not develop. The coffee will be diluted and there will be an inadequate amount of crème on the top.

Element 2: COFFEE

While the bulk of the liquid is water, all of the flavor should be from the coffee. To achieve the same great quality of coffee you receive at a cafe, you need to use the same quality beans. If you choose to grind your own beans, buy the beans fresh and whole, only about a two week supply at a time for maximum freshness. Once the coffee bean is broken, its flavor degrades very quickly. If it is not practical to buy smaller supplies, we recommend you separate larger amounts of beans and store them in airtight containers in a cool, dry area. They should not be kept for longer than 1 month as flavor will diminish. Do not refrigerate or freeze coffee beans.

Element 3: GRIND

The grind of the coffee is critical for proper flavor extraction. If using a pre-ground coffee, be sure to purchase an espresso grind that is specifically for espresso/cappuccino machines. If the grind is too fine, over extraction and bitterness will occur with a spotted and uneven crema on top. If the grind is too coarse, the water will pass through too rapidly and there will be an inadequate amount of crema on the top of the espresso.

Element 4: TAMPING THE COFFEE GROUNDS

If you choose to use ground espresso instead of pods, tamping the coffee is a very important part of the coffee making process. Use the scoop supplied to fill the filter basket, then using the tamping tool, tamp down the grounds with moderate pressure. Add more coffee and tamp again if necessary to bring coffee to level. Do not overfill the filter basket. The ground coffee should be tamped with moderate pressure. If the coffee is not tamped securely, there is a chance the water will flow through the coffee to rapidly and the coffee will be under-extracted. Note: if the coffee is tamped too firmly, the water will flow through the coffee too slowly and the coffee will be over-extracted.

Guide to the Perfect Espresso

  1. You may want to preheat the cups by filling them with hot water; this will help preserve the crema of the espresso. Set the cups aside.
  2. Select the appropriate filter basket and insert it in the portafilter handle.
  3. Using the measuring scoop place finely ground coffee in the filter basket holder. Use one scoop for one cup and two scoops for two cups, or place espresso pod into filter basket holder.
  4. Rest the portafilter handle with the filter basket in position on the countertop. Using the tamping tool, apply moderate packing pressure. Add more coffee and tamp again if necessary to bring coffee to level.
  5. Brush any excess grounds form around the edge of the filter basket.
  6. Secure the portafilter holder onto the brew head.
  7. Check to see if the espresso machine is ready for use. Remember that if the heating light is on, the espresso machine is still adjusting the temperature of the heating system. Turn the function knob clockwise to the picture of the cup espresso setting to start the pour and turn it back to the off position to stop.
  8. Check the espresso pour and serve immediately.

Guide to Milk Texturing

Milk texturing is the steaming of milk. The steam does two things: it heats the milk and mixes air with the milk to form a creamy texture. As with learning to make an espresso, perfecting the art of milk texturing takes time and practice. Easy to follow steps are outlined in the Instruction Booklet.

Using the Hot Water Function

When using the hot water function make sure that the steam/hot water knob is in the double drip hot water setting.

Place the cup or container under the steam/hot water nozzle and turn the function knob to the steam/hot water setting. Once you have dispensed the required amount, stop the hot water by turning the function knob to the off position. Remove the cup or container and swing the steam/hot water wand over the drip tray to catch any drips of water.

Great machine 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I had a Breville cafe Roma machine for 4 years and when it gave out I was looking for a quality pump machine but at a great price. Breville uses aluminum in some of the parts and the machine corroded inside the filter. Plus their customer service is awful and while I got the unit at a discount, it was still $150. I purchased this one a few weeks ago and couldn't be happier. I only use it for espresso as I already have a Nespresso milk frother that is quiet and fantastic. The espresso has a wonderful flavor, the drink comes out fairly hot and has a nice crema. I purchased it with a rebate plus discount and saved $40! I use it everyday so the machine will get a lot of use, but based on other reviews, I am confident this one will go the distance. The pressure of the steam is obvious and it's easy to clean. Tamping the espresso is important and I like the tamper attached to the unit. The profile on the counter is small and the design is, as they say retro (though the unit is mostly plastic). Unless you're in the market to spend several hundred on a machine I would recommend this to the espresso fan. I use Starbucks espresso ground fine. If you add up how much a daily espresso from Starbucks costs, ($4) this machine will pay for itself in no time and other than it not being searing hot, I give it high marks (for the record the Breville made espresso less hot).

The easy cleaning 35 ounce water tank is removable and fills easily right at the faucet. This model features an exclusive anti-drip design.
