As others mentioned the coffee is brewed fast and hot . Very hot.

The big difference is the temperture of the brewed coffee vs. the luke warm or kinda hot coffee you get with Mr. Coffee and other typical retail coffee makers.

Also invest twenty dollars for a grinder and grind your own beans ! You wont go back to pre-ground.

P.S. I keep mine turned on and havent seen a noticable difference in the electric bill.

i wish I was able to give this a 1/2 star, this is the most worthless coffee maker I have ever bought. You end up spilling coffee 90% of the time when you try to get it in your cup. Found you have to lift the lid just a little and then pour. The burner does not seem to keep the coffee very hot at all, I usually have to microwave it for a little bit to get it to the right temp. I would not waste my money, very disappointed considering that its a Bunn.

I like this. Small, lightweight, inexpensive, and packs in my carry-on easily. I probably could set it up in an airport while waiting between flights if I wanted to. The base doesn't heat, so you can use any sort of cup/container. I'm fussy about coffee and don't like to go into the world before I have my cup and this solves the problem compactly while away from home. I like a strong coffee, so I use 3 hefty tablespoons of coffee, medium to fine grind, for one cup. I chose this model over those with a travel mug because I prefer my own mugs.

I can't speak to how long it will last if it were used frequently, but for occasional use, it seems sturdy enough. I'm wondering if there are replacement filters available for these? If not, I suspect a paper filter would help increase it's functional life, but also it's cost over time.

4.5 stars at normal price, 5 stars on sale price.

I also wonder - is this stuff recyclable, or is it instant garbage when it's done working?

I have thus far been very impressed. This machine replaces my Delonghi thermal carafe, which I disliked due to several design flaws that made it hard to pour and caused the basket to overflow many times. I think this was due to the valve at the bottom of the basket being too restrictive. The Zoji has a much larger valve allowing the basket to drain more freely. It still brews slowly by percolating into the basket at a steady even rate. The removable "shower head" wets the grounds evenly and is easy to remove/clean. The Zoji is a very good design and can brew with the lid up allowing you to watch it work. I put a thermostat in the basket and it read ~195° throughout the brew cycle. The coffee came out at the perfect temp. and it was strong and bold, just as I had measured it to be. The carafe is a good design, keeps the coffee hot (I just poured a cup 3 hours after brewing, and it is hot, not warm). The carafe does not drip down the side like my Delonghi used to. My only dislikes are that you have to tip the carafe almost horizontal before it begins pouring, and it pours very slowly. This is somewhat annoying when filling a thermos. If you remove the lid completely, it seems to work alright (Not a major issue). Also the unit is mostly plastic and feels a tad flimsy compared to the full stainless Delonghi. On the other hand, it cost about 70 dollars less than the Delonghi and works much better. Hopefully it holds up for the long haul, because so far it has exceeded my expectations.

Because I like to brew my coffee using a Bodum french press, I like to grind my coffee beans every morning to get the freshest tasting cup of coffee I can get. This coffee grinder is so easy to use and works very well! I've been using it for eight months now, and it's still going strong. Would definitely buy this product again if my current one breaks.

We predominantly use our Black and Decker one-cup-at-a-time personal coffee maker, but it has a tendency to clog and overflow if the coffee grinds are too fine. While there are all sorts of pod/cartridge type single cup coffee makers out there, we prefer being able to choose any style, region, or brand bean we want and to grind them fresh. So because of the risk of the Black and Decker machine clogging with fine grinds, our current Krups grinder became a pain to use, e.g. the grinds were either too fine or not ground enough. We needed something that had some type of grind selection preset that wasn't going to break the bank and that wasn't a burr grinder (previously owned one a found it to be extremely messy and difficult to keep clean). After reading the specs and features of several units, we ultimately picked this grinder up at Target after reading the overall positive reviews for it on Amazon. No complaints. Good unit for the price and it does exactly what we needed it to do.

I've had this machine at least 3 years, using it for hot cocoa or chai. It doesn't produce as light as froth as a professional coffee-bar steamer, but makes a pleasant drink.

I like:
It's held up through many uses.
It heats milk to a consistent drinkable temperature.
It's sturdy enough to mix in dense chocolate.
It takes minimal counter space.

I don't like:
The coating has worn off the bottom making it slightly hard to clean.
It's very loud.

In all, a low-tech, low-cost product that delivered on its promise.

This is a wonderful little kettle. It heats hot water quietly and in an instant and readily detaches from the heating base. And it looks so much nicer than the white plastic instant kettles that are so common. I liked it so much I bought a second one for my office.

I've owned about a half dozen electric kettles over the years. My watchword: the simpler, the better. Since these kettles don't do much except boil water, what can get complicated? Well, one kettle (a Black & Decker)broke a piece off the top-- out it went. My most recent one was also the longest lasting AND cheapest:a 1.7 liter Proctor Silex. OK, it's plastic . . . but I never noticed it imparted a plastic-y taste to the water. The electrical contact was simpler than on kettles that allow you to seat the pot a full 360 degrees; the P-S base was more like an electrical outlet the kettle plugged into . . . a design I liked since it, unlike other kettles, NEVER BROKE. But last week the plastic filter which snaps inside the spout fell off and right onto the heating coil. Another dead kettle. I was ready to buy the same one but saw that the Aroma cost only a few bucks more and is more attractive. The black Proctor Silex looks a bit like Darth Vader's coffee mug. Can't say how long the Aroma will last. On the whole, my kettles have lasted about a year before something goes wrong (the Proctor lasted longer . . . nearly two years). One reviewer noted the top on the Aroma is hard to close. Not really, and besides, the seal is what makes the pressure switch work to shut off the kettle, as I discovered when another kettle -- a Melita -- fried itself because the top wasn't quite closed. So give me a few months with the Aroma and we'll see how it holds up.

Wife bought this product as a gift to replace an ancient similar item for her very elderly parents. You know, the ones that opine "Things ain't the same as they used to be"!

It was the right size, color, and right construction. The price wasn't bad either. And, it didn't have any fancy "pretensions" to boot. Thus it was received well.

As to function, it seems to fit right in and works the way they WANT a percolator to work.

Thus everybody's happy.

We've bought two of these because my wife likes the idea of old fashioned perked coffee. Both of them (after about 2 years of daily use) have stopped being reliable. Sometimes the coffee is fine, but more and more often you fill it, plug it in, it perks and you get something weak and watery and undrinkable. We've found that if you unplug it, let it cool, then perk again you usually get a good cup the second time around. But that is not why you buy an automatic coffeemaker!

I've looked up the mechanics of coffee percolators online and can't figure out why this should happen. But take it from a two-time owner, it does.

The perk was a suggestion by a friend who overheard me talking about the frustration of having that second cup of coffee (later!) and how the warmer on the drips do not keep the brew hot. So I gave this little guy a shot because if the outcome was good I would be a happy camper for a long time forward! I was more than pleased-and the other perk is no paper products involved-one less thing to shop for and saving a tree (maybe!)I am sipping the brew as I write this anecdote-it is goooood!!
