This is a good value for the price. It is large, of good quality and it makes good coffee. It does take awhile to heat the water (maybe this is just my stove but I don't think so) so brewing a pot often takes me 10 minutes or so but I just turn it on and continue with what I'm doing. It is lightweight, looks nice on the stove and can make a large quantity of coffee. I think next time I'll get an electric one but this works great for me

I received this coffee maker as a gift. I was pouring the coffee and didn't have the lid tight enough... it's difficult to adjust. The lid fell on the vinyl floor and a large piece cracked off. I would not recommend this coffee maker.

I purchased this coffee maker for my parents for Christmas. I was lured by its attractive look, its programmable brew function, and its auto shut-off function. I can't speak in detail to its performance within the ten measly days that it worked (as it was a gift), but I assume it was at least fine. I recall my dad expressing surprise that even with the machine turned off the coffee was still hot after two and a half hours. Until today, the thing did what it was supposed to do - look pretty on my parents' counter, make the coffee, and stay hot for an adequate amount of time. Today, my dad started brewing some coffee, and upon return found that the machine had shut itself off completely, mid-brew. We tried different outlets and it wouldn't even display the time. This machine is now a great-looking paperweight. After reading some of the other negative reviews, I think I'm just going to get my money back and purchase something else. I will post an update on the return process.

The reason that I brought this coffee machine was because it said that it had a permanent reusable coffee filter that came along with the machine. I was thinking that I wouldn't have to buy anymore coffee filters, but it turns out that I had to continue buying coffee filters, because little pieces of the coffee beans kept going through the filter and into my drink. I would not recommend this product.

Since I am the only coffee drinker in my house, I've enjoyed having a quick and convenient cup of coffee each morning without wasting the rest of the pot. The mesh filter eliminates the need for paper filters, and is healthier as well.

We bought this after owning a different Cuisinart model (with the built-in grinder and thermal carafe) and being unhappy with the practically lukewarm coffee it made. The old model also leaked which left marks on my counter top. So as you can imagine, we weren't keen on another Cuisinart. But an office where I sometimes work as a freelancer had this one, and I knew from using it there that I loved it. Now that we've owned it at home for 5 months, I have to say we LOVE it even more than we thought we would. First of all, the coffee comes out H-O-T! No more do I have to microwave it to get it to drinking temperature. Second, it keeps it just as hot for a full 2 hours (after that it shuts off automatically), but since the coffee is not sitting on a burner it doesn't get that "cooked" taste. Third, we've made as few as 4 cups and (more often) as many as the full 12, and the coffee comes out perfectly every time. No grinds in the coffee (another problem we've had with previous makers), NO leaking at all. Just consistently great coffee that definitely compares with the gourmet coffee shops. I highly recommend this coffee maker!

Bad Customer Service. Buyer Beware. Bitter Coffee 1 out of 5 stars.

Cuisinart needs to evaluate their customer service process. The resulting coffee tastes bitter. Not full-bodied like a cup of coffee should be. The taste is almost sour, bad, weak coffee. (bad for parties) A lot of beans remain in the grinder. I called Cuisinart Customer Service only to be told that "bad coffee taste" is not covered under the warranty and they refused to even REPLACE it. They offered cleaning tips, which I tried, and didn't work. (A vinegar bath for the parts, a baking soda bath for the carafe.) I've tried different beans,(from Peets to Millstone) filtered water, RO water, paper filters (both bleached and non-bleached) , I replaced the gold filter. Cuisinart will not take the coffee maker back because they say there is nothing wrong with it. In my opinion, if a coffee maker makes a crappy cup of coffee, and I as a consumer have tried everything to fix it, then there is something wrong with the machine. Cuisinart told me if I sent the Grind and Brew back to Cuisinart and there was nothing wrong with it, Cuisinart would just ship it back to me. Cuisinart Customer Service was very condescending. I've been drinking and making coffee for years, I splurged on this machine and I am disappointed. I now use a Bodum French Press with plain old tap water. It works great. Shame on you Cuisinart.

ADVANTAGES: Easy to make coffee, coffee is very smooth and without acid taste; uses less energy to prepare, and I only prepare as much coffee as I need. Huge improvement over instant coffee when camping or touring with a kayak.

DISADVANTAGES: The system is not very attractive; the flimsy white plastic filter holder would have been better as Pyrex or ceramic. Pitcher should have a sleeker silhouette.

COMMENTS: We make a thick coffee syrup; the process takes about 12 hours with minimal prep time. Love the simplicity - just add hot water to the syrup; no more half-empty pots of coffee down the drain. Dunkin' Donuts grounds work great; the taste is much smoother and you can prepare as strong as you like. Will save you lots of $$$'s, and I like Toddy Coffee as much or better than my favorite restaurants and coffee shops. Eat your heart out, Starbucks...

This french press worked fine until it broke. A piece of plastic on the plunger broke in less than 1 month of use. Might have been bad luck but be aware. Plan to spend more money on the next one.

If you are trying to decide between the BonJour and the Bodum French press I have owned both and recommend getting the BonJour, it is a much better design. I have had my BonJour for over 3 years with no issues. The BonJour carafe is made out of unbreakable polycarbonate vs the Bodum which is glass. I broke two Bodum carafe within 6 months before deciding to get the BonJour. I have dropped the BonJour on the floor and it survived. The BonJour also has a fine screen on the pour spout, this is awesome at keeping grounds which escaped from the plunger out of your coffee mug. Last is the nice rubber bottom which keeps it from tipping. The Bodum had 4 metal feet which is less stable.

One last thing, I have seen reviews saying that you cannot separate the screen for cleaning. That is not true. Normally if you clean it within a few days of using all you have to do is rinse it off, maybe a little bit a soap. However once I went on vacation for 2 weeks and when I got home I realized I did not clean the BonJour. It looked like a science experiment, mold was all over the screen. I was able to unclip the plastic and separate the screen and place everything in the dishwasher. Everything came out clean and I was able to put it back together.

I have no complaints about the BonJour, I would recommend it to anyone who wants delicious coffee.
