My husband grew up with the old Pyrex version, which we loved and inherited but which had pieces lost and broken during a move. What I love about this Modelco pot is the way it looks and how light it is, especially compared to the old Pyrex one. What I do not like is the plastic insert. Ours seems to now lean to one side, likely because heat has affected the stem. However, we haven't had any issues with the plastic lid like another reviewer. Also, compared to the old Pyrex, this version seems much quieter, no doubt because it is plastic on glass not glass/metal on glass. We use the Medelco on a glasstop stove with the trivet and have had no issues outside of the leaning plastic stem. Cleanup is quick and easy (dishwasher), as is making coffee. I would recommend this product (I have French press pots too and prefer this to those) and would buy it again.

I guess they don't make anything the way they used too -- especially coffee pots.

Now keep in mind that this is the first day of use for me -- the cons so far are -- the basket holes are WAY to big, why did they change from the old small hole design that covered the whole basket? Grounds get all over the lid and in the coffee, that's a no-no.

The stem in VERY hard to put in the right spot for perking - they didn't used to be like this years ago.

There is no brewer selecter, again, years ago they always had them.
Finally, the coffe comes out thick as mud and I'm sure freshly brewed mud would have a much better taste.

Here's a note to manufacturers -- this isn't rocket science. Forty years ago every percolater you could buy was a good one. What's up? To many college grads trying to improve on perfection?

When we first got this percolator about 6 months ago, we loved it. Recently it started popping the ground fault plug in the kitchen and we had to move it into the dining room to make the coffee. We discovered it has a slow leak below the handle. If you fill it up the night before and plug it in the next morning, there's water underneath it. But even if we wait until morning it still pops the plug, and no amount of drying off the leaking water seems to help. This has become a huge hassle and now I'm shopping for another one.

I am a percolator type person, have been for years, so I know something about percolators. I LOVE THIS LITTLE PERCOLATOR! It's fast, HOT, I like the glass window to see the water level and that it has the old timey top to show the coffee. For fun go here to watch the original maxwell house commercial [...]
I also like the small platform that plugs into the wall while you simply plop the coffee pot onto it and can take it to where ever you want.

Up until yesterday, this was the best little coffee percolator ever! Then I went to make my coffee as usual and plugged it in...but no coffee! It didn't even heat up the water! Looks like you really do get what you pay for :-(
I still like using a percolator as they make superior coffee but next time, I'll invest the $$$ for a good one!

I bought this product in Jan. 2006. I had it for 3 days & when I went to serve me coffee. It was not working, so of course I went on line w/Amzon.com. Found out what I needed to return the item(by the way it was the BEST RETURN I have ever done) so. easy.
No complications so I will highly recommended Amazon. com to all my friends. Oh , I received another one, & so far its been great.

I should have read the reviews. The time span for life of this product is about a month. I gave one to my mother for Christmas and it is already dead. Will not heat. I would give it less than one star.

Returned this product after opening box and examining product- could not remove top to pot without great diificulty-locks in place and no where to grasp pot to open it with any ease. Also extrememly small- almost looks and feels like a child's toy coffe pot--but it is not!

The coffee tasted much better in these, but:
1. After two cleans, the top mica knob (I think it mica instead of glass) cannot screw back in any more.
2. You have to dry inside the pot with paper towels or it will rust. I left my to dry by itself and rust start to show inside the pot.

So after two used, I have to throw this out because of the rust and the bad knob.

Great pot ~ except for the clear PLASTIC knob on top. After two or three uses, the base of the knob melts during percolation and the knob cannot be used any longer. I contacted FARBERWARE Corporation for a glass replacement, but they do not offer one. Generic glass percolator tops do not fit. Purchased new plastic replacement tops from Farberware, but the same thing happened. That is the BIGGEST drawback with this percolator. Could be a potentially dangerous item. Top can come off while pouring coffee and someone could get scalded. Farberware didn't stand behind their product when I informed them of the problem.
