Bummed 2 out of 5 stars.

My Starbucks Barista espresso machine finally broke after 10 years of heavy use. I purchased the Capresso machine after reading the postive reviews. The machine was finicky and took a while to get used to, but after a day or two I was able to make a nice latte so I was happy. The crema on the espresso wasn't as nice as what I used to get from the Starbucks machine, but for 1/2 the price it was OK. But then in week 4 or so, the lever that you move to go from frothing to espresso stopped moving. I tried everything: restarting the machine, unplugging, emptying and refilling the water, etc. but nothing worked. Sadly I've had to return the machine and am on the search for a new one.

Very Nice Machine 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

We were looking for an inexpensive Espresso Machine that didn't take up much counter space. I am a big fan of Krups, so we gave it a try. We have been using this machine for the past 6 years and it is still working great. Every once in a while when the coffee comes out slow, we run an Espresso machine cleaner through it and it works just fine again. Not sure what everyone is doing to make it spew coffee and knobs and handles breaking. We love this machine.

Editorial Review:

Inspired by experts and demanding consumers with uncompromising standards of performance and quality, krups products have been built with these three key attributes in mind: passion, precision and perfection. Krups' xp1020 steam espresso machine provides professional results in a compact design. At just 11 inches tall, this espresso machine works in any kitchen space. The large capacity carafe holds up to 4 cups of espresso, and the steam wand is user friendly- thanks to an oversized dial. Removable drip tray allows easy clean up, stainless steel accents compliment any decor.

great machine with one design flaw 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

The machine makes great coffee, and although the instructions are a tad obtuse, I'd heartily recommend it to anyone. However.............what sensible designer would incorporate a tiny black plastic part that fits---loosely---into the bottom of the filter holder, and is virtually guaranteed to be lost when the basket is cleaned? Unless the idea is to sell more tiny black plastic replacement parts, I would recommend doing things differently, or at least including a spare one with the $500 espresso machine. Michael Ehlers

I took it out of the box.

Started it up... no water coming through.

Another lemon. Taking it back tomorrow.

Great machine, here's my notes... 5 out of 5 stars.

I've had this machine now 4 months. I've had many machines before it, including the ever popular DeLonghi. This is an amazing machine, but there are a few things to know.

1. All espresso machines, and even some coffee machines, need to be primed. If there is water in the tank, yet it's not pumping but making noise, chances are you just need to prime it. Turn the steam knob just like in the manual, and if it fails, try again. You only have to do this when you first get the machine, or if you some how let it run dry.

2. The specs list this as not coming with a tamper, that's only partially correct. It comes with a plastic scoop / tamper combo thang. Before you get too annoyed with it, I recommend ordering "RSVP Terry's Tamper" (probably advertised on the same page). It's less than 7 bucks, and the small side fits this machines portafilter perfectly.

3. Some reviewers have knocked this machine because the "Filter keeps getting clogged". Here's a news flash: All espresso filters will get clogged if your grinder leaves too many fines. You can get pre-ground espresso (I recommend LaVazza InBlu, or Illy), or you can get yourself a good grinder (doesn't need to be great, as long as it grinds *evenly*). If you accidentally grind too finely, this machine comes with pins to un-clog the filter. You can save a bit of time by just rubbing your thumb over the filter aggressively while running watter over it.

4. Noise. Without a doubt, this is the noisiest espresso machine I've ever owned. That said, I just purchased a Kurieg for my wife, and it is noisier and had even more trouble with it's initial priming. To the Kurieg's credit, there is no grind to mess with, and the clean up is Zero. :)

Now for the stuff that Hasn't been mentioned, but if I where Cuisinart, I'd be shouting this from the roof tops...

1. This machine has the most rock solid temperature across shots I've ever seen. Nothing else comes close.

2. This machine has integrated pressure relief. It's not perfect, which is probably why they didn't mention it, but even Gaggia's solenoid freaks out from time to time too. Most every other manufacture with this feature charge double this machines cost. It's a big deal.

3. I've been inside DeLonghis, Gaggias, and others, this thing is pretty well built. It also looks pretty nice on the outside, and has a water res that is easy to use, large enough, and above all else, leak free.

4. The steam wand works well. It actually works better than my Gaggia's (which was 4 *times* as much money), but it is Different, and takes some initial practice.

5. This machine has an auto power down. That's a Very Nice feature that is often overlooked on less expensive machines, and it's very handy too.

6. The dosing on this thing actually works. I've had a couple other machines that claimed dosing, yet they all seemed pretty random. This one actually works and it works reliably. Before you think this is a feature you can live without, consider this: With non-dosing machines, you need to use a shot glass or some other way of eye-balling when to stop, then put into final glass for mixing. But, with dosing, you can punch up a double shot right into the final cup, and it gets it right. Every Time. How cool is That??? Very Cool!

The only things I wish they did different:

1. I wish the machine was quieter.
2. I wish they had a non-pressurized portafilter basket option.

But, when you compare that to the plus side, it's a no brainer: Buy This Machine!

Not having to temperature surf, not having gooey cleanup, having a cup warmer that actually works, AUTO POWER DOWN, dosing, etc., all for the price of a used Gaggia? Just click "Add to Cart" already!

I love this machine, no wait I hate this machine 2 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The first brand-new machine did not froth, so Amazon sent a replacement and that one worked for a while. I have owned this machine for 18 months and have made probably over 1,000 shots. It's a great machine, brilliant rotating eject system with built in tamper. Very convenient. 2 months ago, it started leaking from the bottom onto the counter tops and in addition, the primary gasket failed. Fair enough, things happen. I call Capresso, they say a repair -all in- inclusive of shipping is $80, also reasonable. It's really a swap with a re-furb, you do not get your original machine back.

The repair comes in -- frother doesn't work. I call them back and they replace again. Guess what? Frother doesn't work, again!

I like the machine a lot, but no one should have to deal with a 75% out-of-the-box defect rate and a major failure after 18 months. The product is nicely designed, but poorly built and has very poor repair quality control.

I can not recommend it.

A great bargain for the price range 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

It's true that this isn't exactly a $2,000 espresso machine, but it's lived through the year and a half I've owned it and worked well for me all along. It's acted pretty strangely on me a couple of times; things like water pouring out of the microfilter at a brewing espresso rate while I was steaming milk and making nasty sounding noises, but I think in the long run if you treat this machine well, it's going to do the same to you.

It's a really great way of entry into the espresso-making world, especially with the price tag. If it finally gives up on me, I suppose I'll have to move up in the world, but for now it's staying. I've read some horror stories in reviews for this thing, but as far as I've seen with mine, if you don't abuse it and clean it well after every use (especially the frother-- be sure to wipe it off, clean the cap to it and let a little steam out to clear out so milk won't dry and plug up) it'll last forever.. well maybe not, but pretty close to it.

An Aggravation 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This machine was a complete waist of money, and not something you want to deal with in the morning. First of all the frothing spout is plastic (gross). Secondly, the frothing spout comes down on the edge of the machine rather than in the drip tray (an utterly ignorant and thoughtless location). When you first turn the steam on to allow the initial water out, it pours out all over the counter. This positioning makes it very difficult to froth the milk as well. The machine is also very light, so it has to be held down while you try and place the coffee handle in. Overall, I couldn't be more dissatisfied. I will have to replace it immediately. This machine should be taken off the market!

This Pot Rocks ! 5 out of 5 stars.
10 of 10 people found this review helpful.

Cuisinox Roma 6-cup Stainless Steel Stovetop Espresso Maker

i've had this espresso maker for a few months now & it is Spectacular & worth every penney ! ( never thought i'd be gushing over an espresso maker - in fact, i almost never review prodcuts myself, though i read them thoroughly before making purchases - but here i am . . lol )

If you've used stovetop espresso makers in the past, i think you'll find its performance Exemplary & if you haven't, the web makes it very simple to learn. Best of all, this pot makes it Fun.

PROS : really substantial construction

sleek, elegant design - eye candy ! lol

( this product is amasing actually . . i'm a sucker for things aesthetically & materially Well Done & this pot ROCKS - makes me happy everytime i look at it ! )

25 YEAR warranty ( how often do you see THAT ??!!! )

delivers lovely cups of espresso in no time, with no mess ( and you can watch it happen - doesn't spurt all over with the top up so you can )

comes with an insert that allows the option of 3 espresso sized cups if you so choose ( about 3/4 cup total ), in addition to its normal 6 cup / 1 1/2 cup capacity

comes with an extra gasket as well

looks as Beautiful after alot of use as it did out of the box

CONS: Zero that i can see

It may seem pricey at first but if you love espresso & want something that is just lovely to look at AND that will last, this is definitely the way to go. ( We have used stovetop espresso makers for years & this one trumps all i've come across. The aluminum ones end up looking crummy in no time, plus you really don't want aluminum in your body if you can help it & coffee is a known acidic. And the stainless steel on this one, is not a flimsy layer that's going to wear off. In fact, i just sent this to my daughter for her birthday. She loves to entertain and this makes a lovely impression whether for one or for guests. You definitely won't want to hide this away. )

This product is apparently made by a Canadian company but IN China according to the literature that accompanies it - which speaks Volumes for company oversight in terms of quality control & definitely not the usual made in China purchase you wish you'd passed by.

Ok, have i gushed enough yet ?? lol

Cuisinox, Take a Bow !!!!!
