Disappointing.... 2 out of 5 stars.

I bought a model 1375 espresso machine a year ago and use it 3-4 times each week. While I haven't had any major problems like those described in some reviews, I do have some complaints:

1) Before using it for the first time, I read the written instruction sheet very carefully. Only later did I find the small, separate piece of paper which says "BEFORE making espresso the first time, you MUST prime the pump!" (I'm using their caps & exclamation point.) Why not include advice that on the large multilingual sheet of basic instructions??
2) The first cup of the day never has a thin layer of tan foam on the surface, no matter how long I let the machine heat up. Only when you make the next cup does that normal foam appear.
3) I bought the machine because it's made of stainless steel, not plastic, and it looks attractive. However I learned that the drip tray isn't stainless steel. Pieces of metal continue to peel off one area of the tray, as if acid were eating into it. I now wash and dry the drip tray every single time I use the machine. When that metal began peeling, I sent email to Ariete customer service, requesting that they send me a new drip tray to replace the one that's slowly deteriorating. That was about 6-8 months ago and they NEVER responded.
4) Recently the Ariete label glued to the bottom of the front of the machine began peeling off. It had never been exposed to water or rough treatment. Now it's starting to look tacky...

In conclusion, I would never buy another espresso maker made by Ariete because of complaint #3.

Capress Cleaning Tablets 4 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

My home has hard water and the need to keep appliances clean that circulate water has been a challenge especially with my beloved coffee machine. I have been using dargol for some time now in keeping my Capresso coffee maker clean but finding Dargol has been a challenge as the only brick & mortar store front that actually had it in my area was Crate and Barrel and it wasn't on their shelves.

The cleaning tablets in comparison to the dargol appears to perform a more thorough job as I found that the tablets (once fully dissolved) lifted a lot more debris and particles from the coffee maker.

The only issues which I had with the product was the lack of instructions, which despite the simplicity of dropping in the water basin, I wasn't sure whether the cleaning process should begin before or after the tablet had dissolved in the water or how much water should be used for that matter. Common sense took over and I decided to wait which was a good thing but all the same it would have been comforting to have a little guidance on the matter.

The other issue albeit minor was with the on-line merchant which I purchased it from charged $10 for shipping and the packaging for this tiny product was excessive to say the least.

Overall I have a product now that even if used on a monthly basis will last for over two years which despite the cost when weighed across that time frame makes it a wise and very useful investment for those who truly prize their coffee makers.

Great Coffee/Okay Espresso - Poor Heating 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I got this machine as a Christmas present in December 07 and after using it for over a 1 1/2 years, there are some valid statements in the current reviews. On first opening of the box, I was disappointed in the cheap design of it. The majority of it is plastic, except for the arm, drip grill, and drip dispenser. For $300, I thought it would be designed better.

When I first got it home, I was excited to try and it and have to say it took me a couple of times to figure out the loading of the espresso. The instructions say that a max of 2 cups (using the provided measuring spoon) should be used. What they didn't say is that you have to make sure the arm 'locks' in place to disperse the espresso correctly instead of it draining into the grounds disgard bin and then overflows into the drip drain. This can get messy and it took a couple of times for me to figure it out. In reading other reviews, everything they say is accurate. It is easy to maintain, it does need to be cleaned, but I had it for 1 1/2 years and cleaned it once a week, if not every two weeks. Having the disgard bin is nice and makes it easy for a quick cup of Crema Coffee in the morning if espresso is not your thing. The frother wasn't worth a darn and I ended up warming up my milk via my microwave. Until the power button went out, I had to heat up the coffee in my microwave for 30 secs daily.

Ultimately, in asking the question 'Would you buy it again', the answer is no. I am looking for a single-cup coffee brewer, probably the Breville. Breville BKC600XL Gourmet Single-Cup Coffee Brewer

best product out there for super creamy cappuccino 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I discovered this item when I was subletting an apartment in Germany. The people from whom we were renting had a standard cappuccino maker with a side steamer, but the steamer wasn't working well. I asked the apartment owner if there was a trick to the machine, and she pointed me to this amazing frother.

It does require a significant amount of effort to get truly thick, foamy milk, but it will happen. Fill it about a third of the way with cold whole milk for a large sized cup (or two smalls), heat and pump somewhat continuously after a few minutes. Once the milk expands to a few inches from the top and is hot, take off the heat, then pump until you see very soft peaks at the top. The best cappuccino ever awaits.

The tuttocrema in this size is not as good for 2 as for one if you are using large cups. They sell a larger version in New Zealand and South Africa, and perhaps in Germany (they strangely don't sell this at all in Italy, to our great disappointment), but it is hard to come by. However, if you plan to make enough for just one large or two regulars, it is sufficient.

The coffee maker also makes a very respectable cup of coffee (we use illy that is expressly made for the Moka). Don't tamp the coffee down - that's really the secret.

I cannot recommend this machine enough, though if you have more than one cup a day and really like thick foam, you may get tennis elbow!

Editorial Review:

The perfect gift ideal for that special person who loves cappuccinos and lattes. The two-piece set includes Bialetti's best selling 6 cup Moka express, and a 32 oz. non-stick Milk Frother. Specially gift boxed, this is truly a memorable gift!Cup size measured in (1 oz) servings.

Unreal for the price!!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

Please read THOROUGHLY!!! With respect to the others who have left less than 4 stars, BOO HOO! ITS 39.00! THIS THING ROCKS FOR 39.00 bucks. I must tell you, I thought, Mr. Coffee, it must be a piece of s_hit, but I bought it anyway cause it seemed simple and I liked the weight and feel of the potential piece of crap. A great man once said "Contempt prior to investigation is a bar against all information."

Buy this even if you don't need it daily. I spend over 200.00 a MONTH at Starbucks, I used their Expresso Dark Roast in this thing and it was AWESOME! I hate Mr. Coffee, but the sub in China that makes this for them hit the f'n nail on the head. You watch, they will double the price after reading this review.

By the by, I NEVER write reviews, let alone a positive one for a over-hyped marketing company like Mr. Coffee. I am writing this for you, that is going to stand in Target, Penny's, Macys, or alike that is going to buy the complicated, more expensive 100.00 to 300.00 machine when we dont possibly have that many friends interested in the size of our unit or the frequency of its use. A little poetic licence here, but buy one and tell me I was wrong, I doubt you will...

Best,

Dave

espresso!! 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

this espresso maker makes a wonderful cup of hot espresso or cappichino, creamy on top, good taste, easy to handle. The only drawback I found, is that it doesn't turn off the water by itself, it keeps pouring until you tell it to stop. If you don't pay attention for a minute, you'll have a mess :-) I would still buy this machine again.

Great Little Machine 5 out of 5 stars.

I bought my machine almost two years ago. It has been a great machine. My wife and I have latte's for breakfast every day. I take the easy way out and just heat the milk (cream for my wife) in the microwave. I have it down to being able to make two, 8 ounce lattes in 12 minutes. It used to take me that long to do the drip coffee maker.

Last week a contractor was doing some work in our kitchen and I fixed him a cup, he was blown away. He said it was the best cup of coffee he had ever had. I warned him that he would be ruined for Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks now. He ordered a BAR 32 the next day.

We liked the machine so much, we bought the matching coffee grinder, which is also a great value.

This machine makes decent expressos, and great lattes and capachinos. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles, or yuppie appeal of some of the high end machines, but if you just want a good shot, or cup of coffee, this machine will do just fine.

It has been nearly two years, and over a thousand shots, with no problems at all.
