This Pot Rocks ! 5 out of 5 stars.

Cuisinox Roma 6-cup Stainless Steel Stovetop Espresso Maker

i've had this espresso maker for a few months now & it is Spectacular & worth every penney ! ( never thought i'd be gushing over an espresso maker - in fact, i almost never review prodcuts myself, though i read them thoroughly before making purchases - but here i am . . lol )

If you've used stovetop espresso makers in the past, i think you'll find its performance Exemplary & if you haven't, the web makes it very simple to learn. Best of all, this pot makes it Fun.

PROS : really substantial construction

sleek, elegant design - eye candy ! lol

( this product is amasing actually . . i'm a sucker for things aesthetically & materially Well Done & this pot ROCKS - makes me happy everytime i look at it ! )

25 YEAR warranty ( how often do you see THAT ??!!! )

delivers lovely cups of espresso in no time, with no mess ( and you can watch it happen - doesn't spurt all over with the top up so you can )

comes with an insert that allows the option of 3 espresso sized cups if you so choose ( about 3/4 cup total ), in addition to its normal 6 cup / 1 1/2 cup capacity

comes with an extra gasket as well

looks as Beautiful after alot of use as it did out of the box

CONS: Zero that i can see

It may seem pricey at first but if you love espresso & want something that is just lovely to look at AND that will last, this is definitely the way to go. ( We have used stovetop espresso makers for years & this one trumps all i've come across. The aluminum ones end up looking crummy in no time, plus you really don't want aluminum in your body if you can help it & coffee is a known acidic. And the stainless steel on this one, is not a flimsy layer that's going to wear off. In fact, i just sent this to my daughter for her birthday. She loves to entertain and this makes a lovely impression whether for one or for guests. You definitely won't want to hide this away. )

This product is apparently made by a Canadian company but IN China according to the literature that accompanies it - which speaks Volumes for company oversight in terms of quality control & definitely not the usual made in China purchase you wish you'd passed by.

Ok, have i gushed enough yet ?? lol

Cuisinox, Take a Bow !!!!!

Great machine for its price 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

We bought this espresso machine about 3 or 4 years ago. Price was the same as it is today and the machine still works fine except that the milk steamer quit within the first year. Otherwise this little machine produces perfect espressos every day for me and my wife (at least 4-5 per day) for all these years. Great little machine that can compare with most other machines out there in the $400 price range...

Not Well Constructed 2 out of 5 stars.

I am giving this coffee maker two stars because I'm trying to give the company the benefit of the doubt. The price is certainly right, but the quality isn't. To begin with, the set-up instructions were not accurate, as other reviewers have mentioned. We nearly returned it without making a single cup of coffee, but with persistence managed to get the water tank to seal. Once that problem was solved, we were happy with the coffee that the machine made, although it was NOISY (we hesitate to start the machine if anybody is asleep) and it vibrates like crazy. Within a couple of months of daily use, we noticed that the aluminum on the drip-catch tray was beginning to peel off. We've had it now for a year and a half and while it still manages to make coffee, the steamer shoots at least a 1/4 cup of hot water before you get steam, and the drip-catch tray has nearly disintegrated. I haven't been able to find a replacement tray, so I suppose we'll just wait until it corrodes all the way through and then order a new machine. I'll tell you one thing.. it won't be another Ariete.

Happy V2 owner 4 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

I have owned Miss Silvia for about 6 years and still use her at weekends to treat ourselves to the wonderful coffee she makes. Some of the reasons I chose Miss Silvia were due to the construction, performance, amount of steam, looks, and feedback from others. She has proven to be a very reliable machine and continues to give us much pleasure.
Upgrades - It looks like the only changes between V2 and V3 are cosmetic - brew group handle, drip tray design and the steam knob. I guess why change something if it is working very well. The inside of the machine is built very well, marine brass boiler with a 1Kw heater bring her up to temperature quickly, and a 3 way solenoid to stop spit back.
There are a couple of areas to watch, which other reviewers have alluded to -
Grind - I started off with a Braun bur wheel grinder and I got intermittent results with the quality of the tamp. A couple of years ago I upgraded to Rocky her brother and the quality of the tamp improved greatly. (Once you work out the right setting for the coffee you are using)
Tamping tool - The one that came with Miss Silvia was too small, I have never understood why they shipped the unit with the wrong size tamping tool. This also impacted how even the pressure was on the tamp. I upgraded that as well to one that fit the filter and now I get reliable and excellent results
Leaks - As mentioned above, one of the other reasons why I purchased this unit is that it has a built in 3 way solenoid to stop spit back through the brew group when using the steam wand or visa versa. Even though when I used her last I completely close the steam valve, as she is warming up for the next use, I get spits and dribbles from the steam wand and I have to turn the steam valve once again to close it off. This might be just due to expansion and contraction, but it is annoying so I have to remember to turn the steam valve off again before I turn her on again.
Drip tray - It is good that they have improved the design of this, since on V2 the tray had some very sharp edges and looked like it came out of a fabrication shop without the finishing touches.
One improvement I wish they would make with it is to be able to hook it up to the water supply instead of having to keep refilling a tank, but that is a minor consideration and probably keeps the price down.
Steam - I wish they would have gone with a bigger boiler and a slightly larger element. After making one lot of steamed milk, she runs out of steam, so I have to fake making another brew and then turn the steam back on again for the boiler to build up to temp again for another lot of milk, but it does make wonderful foam even without a tool on the end, just comes down to technique again.
I have found that there is a method to warming her up quicker -
Turn her on
When the light goes out run brew through her without coffee until the light comes on again to warm the brew group up
When the light goes out again, she is ready.
The other upgrade I made was to purchase a butcher block and varnish it to raise both Silvia and Rocky up about 2-3 inches to allow for a larger container for steamed milk or a tall cup when making Americano
In summary Silvia is a great machine and probably the cheapest entry into the semi-professional units, she is built like a tank, when you get all the variables right she makes exceptional coffee. Where the fun of this unit comes is that it takes some skill and experience to get the best results and once you buy this wonderful unit bring her home and start to enjoy her you will see this is a marriage made in coffee heaven.

This is the very latest edition of the widely popular Rancilio Silvia Espresso Machine. It still has the powerful brass boiler and durable pump that have made the Silvia stand head and shoulders above the competition. New enhancement and upgrades for the Rancilio Silvia V3 include: a commercial grade, fully articulating steam wand with 1-hole tip for improved milk frothing, a new ergonomic grip for the steam wand to make it easier to open and close, a new ergonomic handle for the already heavy-duty porta-filter. 1 Year Warranty.

Third Time's The Charm 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I had an "El Cheapo" espresso/coffee combo from Krups that worked well for many years until the pump gave out. I scoured the Internet for a worthy machine that I could depend on and purchased one of the Breville espresso makers. I returned it the next day. It made terrible weak coffee. Then I happened to be wandering through Wal Mart and saw a $70.00 Hamilton Beach machine. It made great coffee with crema and it was strong enough to froth milk. The next morning, I went to make a cup and the machine had leaked all over my countertop! I was lucky to have unplugged it the night before or else there could have been an electrical fire. Back to Wal Mart it went.

Neither of these machines were automatic and I had to grind my own coffee beans (which I prefer, even with my regular coffee). I saw the Saeco, read the reviews and said, "If this doesn't perform, I'm not making espresso ever again." When it arrived, I followed the "Quick Start" instructions and filled the hopper with my French roast beans. I crossed my fingers and pressed the "On" button. When all the lights were ready, I pressed the "Coffee" button. In about 15 seconds I had one of the most beautiful cups of espresso complete with a heady froth of crema!

I was so impressed, I made another cup. Ahhh, heavenly. Of course, I couldn't sleep that night - the caffeine replaced the blood in my veins.

The milk steamer wand is also mighty powerful. It froths milk just like a commercial machine. Something my Krups didn't do very well.

In summation, this is a wonderful machine in its price range. I highly recommend it. Oh, and by the way, the clown who gave it a 1-star review? That's a hoax. There is no such wording on the box or in the manual.

Oh come on, it's not that bad... Here's some things to consider 4 out of 5 stars.
47 of 47 people found this review helpful.

First... I'm not an employee of Espressione...

I've read many reviews on this item, most of them, not very positive. I thought I would add my 2 cents as I have had this machine for a little over 2 months.

Let's start with day 1. Dead on Arrival. Bummer. Well, it was easy enough to return to the place I purchased (Sams). They sent me a new one within 3 days, and I was excited to get started. Before you buy this machine, make sure you make this checklist:

1. I have a decent conical burr grinder ( )
2. I am aware that I need to buy fresh beans to get real crema ( )
3. I have a decent tamper in the 58mm variety ( )
4. I am not a total espresso geek, but I have owned a cheap machine or two ( )
5. I never pay retail for espresso machines ( )

If you've checked most of these, feel free to continue, if you haven't, don't buy this machine. It's not for you. If you're an uber espresso geek, go buy your PID'd Rancilio Silvia or your Le Lit. You don't belong here. This machine has an aluminum boiler that has heat issues just like the rest of the lower grade machines do. It does hold heat better than most, but seriously, if you're in the $600 market, you shouldn't be looking at this machine. You can get this machine at "other" vendors in the $230 range. And for that price, there isn't a whole lot that's better. Maybe a Gaggia... but I'm sick of those pieces of plastic.

Physical Traits: It's pretty... Very pretty. It's also pretty solid and heavy at 24ish lbs. It is tall, and yes, you do have to hold on while attaching the portafilter. However, it's not as bad as previous reviewers have stated. The portafilter is almost as heavy as my Reneka Viva single group commercial machine at work. It has a very nice (and handy) temperature gauge on the top of the machine that is very useful.

Espresso:
Probably the best part of this said portafilter is that it has options for brewing espresso. If you have a decent grinder, you can remove the "crema enhancing" disks inside and use it's regular filter basket just like a higher end machine (a serious plus for me...). The pump has plenty of pressure to press fine ground espresso and make wonderful crema (as long as your beans are fresh). Some reviewers have stated the espresso is cold. Here's my typical process:

1. Fire up the machine into the standby position (heats boiler to just about 100 degrees C)
2. Once the temp is up, for the first shot of the day I do a quick blank shot to keep the portafilter warm.
3. I warm my cup up with warm water
4. Pull the shot. Enjoy.

I'm guessing people find the espresso cold is the massive portafilter is cold. Once it's warm, it stays warm. But honestly, I've had some pretty nice shots.

Steam:

Yup, it pretty much sucks in from the factory form. The machine makes plenty of steam for my latte's, but not without modification. The tip they give you for the wand is awwwwfuuuullll. Replace it with somethign... or trim it down. I used my Delonghi Ec155 tip on mine and it makes nice micro foam. But the original allows too much air into the mix. Foul bubbly milk... no thanks.

Yes, the wand is too close to the machine, but I have got used to it. It' not that big of an issue, and quite frankly I'm not that picky for $230 bucks shipped. If I were spending $700, I'd be furious.

Well I think that just about wraps it up. I really appreciate good espresso. Sure, there are plenty of better machines out there, but this one suits me just fine. Hope you enjoyed this review and that it is somewhat sobering.

Leaking water tank- defective mess!! 1 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I was thrilled with this machine for the first 3 weeks, then the water tank began leaking all over whenever the machine was brewing. It's a mess, the other reviews are accurate about the water leaking problem! I called DeLonghi, who claimed they never heard of this problem and advised me to return the machine. (I will also report that the customer service email address on their website isn't valid, and their customer service reps are not helpful and abrasive!!) I wanted an Italian machine, but this clearly wasn't the way to go. It sounds like a design flaw and they continue to sell defective equipment.

Very happy! A few responses... 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I am extremely happy with this little espresso machine! I read tons of the reviews before purchasing this, and have some responses that I would've appreciated before I bought this machine.

Knob- I haven't found this to be hard to turn at all, unless you have wet hands or something like that.

Frother- the "frothing attachment" just makes milk ridiculously bubbly. After taking it off, all the difficulty I had trying to froth milk was gone. For a beginner like me, it is good to know how easy it is!

Leaking- the machine hasn't leaked at all for me. It drips if you have excess pressure built up that you don't release.

Cheap parts- don't manhandle the thing and you will be fine! If you jerk on the brew basket when putting it on, it will break. The carafe is glass; don't drop it. Yes, some parts are plastic. It wouldn't be a good idea to step on them or anything. The carafe lid isn't tight, but it doesn't fall off or anything.

Coffee/grind- buy good coffee, grind it for espresso. I went to my local coffee shop, bought espresso beans and asked them to grind it for me. Perfect. No problems.

The only criticism I have for this machine is the serving size. You must make at least two servings. As best I can tell, one "serving" on this machine is about equivalent to two shots of espresso. You can't simply make less, because if you do there won't be enough steam built up to be able to froth the milk. In fact, I usually have to add extra water to make sure I have enough steam.

Read the instruction manual and you will have no issues.
