Simple. Consistent. Tasty. Bialetti. 5 out of 5 stars.
10 of 10 people found this review helpful.

My wife and I have been spending a pretty penny at the local coffee shop, so I began looking for inexpensive home alternatives. Most of the coffee snobs claim you have to purchase a $200+ machine and $150+ grinder to have a decent cup of espresso. I turned instead to the frugal Italians. They did invent the stuff, afterall. My Bialetti Moka Express coffee pot came this afternoon. I was a little concerned that a $20 pot might not meet the high standards of the gourmet beverages wifey and I have become accustomed to. I was wrong. The brew made by this ingenious little pot is a little weaker than "pumped" espresso and lacks the foamy cap (crema) that all the snobs rave about, but mixed with some hot, frothed milk and a bit of chocolate syrup I couldn't tell the difference between Bialetti and Seattle's Best.

This rich brew comes from a tiny little aluminum contraption with no moving parts, no electronic gizmos, no pump handle and virtually no wait time or clean-up. You just fill, brew and pour. It's that simple. Its base only covers half of the stovetop's smallest eye and I expect it will be easy to store due to its diminuitive size. I've already had three cups of homemade mocha today, and I've only had the pot since noon! *jitter jitter* The point is this: If you're a coffee lover who is bored with Folgers from a Mr. Coffee drip machine or is spending way too much at Starbucks, the Moka pot is an inexpensive and easy-to-use alternative with excellent results.

Editorial Review:

Make coffee fast using the Moka Express by Bialetti, the internationally used coffeemaker for over 50 years. The Moka Express brews your coffee in 3 to 6 minutes. Prime aluminum ensures a blemish free exterior with quality machined screw threads for good pressure and a tight fit. Pressure valves have a stainless steel ball bearing and spring with gaskets of 100 percent rubber. Its thick, hollow ground base allows the Moka Express to be used on electric, gas or ceramic ranges. In 1933, Alfonso Bialetti introduced the Moka Express aluminum stovetop coffee brewer. His simple, reliable design became an icon of the 20th century. Bialetti products are renowned for combining the best of Italian-quality, style and design. Capacity: 6 cup

Awesome Espresso and Cappuccino -- But At A Cost (5- stars) 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

At one time I owned a Krups espresso/cappuccino machine that I ended up using for only a few months since it was such a pain to set up and clean. Right now, it's sitting in my basement, gathering cobwebs. However, when I received this Nespresso machine as a gift, I now can have cappuccino whenever I want in mere minutes. I turn the machine on, wait for the solid red light to show proper heat/steam (it takes about 30 seconds), pop in a pod, and press the correct cup size for espresso or the larger "lungo." The coffee is forced through the pod and into the cup below in seconds, with a nice brown crema on top. For cappuccino or latte, you need only to then press the steam button (the machine comes with a steamer attachment), stick the tube in a cup of milk, press the lever, and watch the machine suck up the milk and deposit it, hot and foamy, into the cup. Clean up? A breeze. Even if you steam milk, you have only let the steamer suck in water for a few seconds and deposit it into another cup. The empty pods are tossed into an internal receptacle that holds ten or so. There is no tamping for preparation. No scraping the grounds out afterward. No dishwashing. It really is that simple. And the espresso and cappuccino taste just like they do in Italy.

Of course, there are downsides to every machine, and this one is expense. Not only is the machine pricey, but the pods must be purchased through Nespresso at approximately fifty cents per pod. (They come in sleeves of ten.) The Nespresso also must be particularly sensitive to power surges, since mine stopped working in less than a year, as did my sister's, for no apparent reason. But . . . the customer service is awesome. I called, and they sent a loaner machine overnight, with packing and a pre-paid label to send mine in for servicing. When mine was fixed a week later, I simply shipped the loaner machine back using, again, a pre-paid label. I didn't pay a cent. Still, I now leave my machine unplugged when not in use. Others may want to put it on a surge protector.

I was worried that the pre-measured portions of coffee would taste canned, but they have excellent flavor. Once you buy this machine, you will be part of the "Nespresso Club" (wait until you see how exclusive they make it seem -- you'll have to laugh!). You will buy your coffee off the web site or over the phone, and receive it within two days. The "Ristretto" pods make the best full-strength espresso and cappuccino. Even when I make "lungo" coffee, I tend to use the higher strength coffees such as "Arpeggio" since I'm not a fan of the milder types. "Decaffeinato Intenso" makes competent decaf cappuccino as well as lungo, although I wish they had an even stronger decaf. (The regular "Decaffeinato" is milder.)

This machine is a luxury, to be sure, and I doubt I would have splurged on my own. However, this is one gift that I use regularly, with as much appreciation for it as I had the first week. Unlike my Krups machine, this one sits proudly on my counter. Friends who come to dinner eye it longingly, hoping that, once again, I'll offer up espresso or cappuccino with dessert. Of course, I always oblige.

sent back 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I sent this back (waiting for replacement) because the steam knob is ineffectual; the valve it's attached to gets hot (is that a surprise to the designers??), the plastic knob then just spins around the valve. I'm sure the replacement will do the same, but I can hope this was a rev.1 machine and I'll get a rev 2 which fixes (not holding breath).
Also, there was an "extra" piece of some kind of plastic that was rattling around inside the machine.
Makes a decent espresso - although I'm no connoisseur or expert.

Too loud to be worth it 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I bought this espresso maker and ~$80 Delonghi pump-driven model (for a different location) at the same time. The Gaggia, despite the great reviews, makes a very similar cup of espresso to the much-cheaper Delonghi. Yet it is VERY loud (sounds like a jackhammer) when pumping espresso.

In addition, poor quality: I returned it once to manufacturer for repair (broken mount) which went reasonably well although lengthy and expensive process (customer pays shipping for bulky unit). Now the frother nozzle has broken.

If I could do it again I'd get the cheaper Delonghi and save the $$ (and my families patience when listening to the loud sounds each morning when I make my espresso!)

Editorial Review:

The Carezza is a modern designed espresso machine with the soul of the Gaggia's traditional equipment. This economical machine will perform at the same level as Gaggia's more expensive models, but uses a plastic housing to minimize weight and production costs. For those who desire the pure Italian bloodlines and flashy style, the Carezza is a perfect choice. Available in White. Please see Other Info tab for a complete list of features for these items. .

An absolute delight to use... 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

So if you are thinking of buying an espresso machine, look no further. This could not be simpler to use. I bought this machine 4 weeks ago and am probably through about 80 capsules (mostly for entertaining) and have since probably had 2 friends purchase the exact same one because of the taste, texture and quality of espresso. How can you beat a world class fresh espresso in about 30 seconds!!

The Nespresso pod's system could not be easier to use and clean. I think for the quality of product, the cost is also very reasonable per use.

I highly recommend this machine for true espresso aficionado's who are willing to depart from making their espresso's manually. I did and am very happy since.

Side note, if you are looking at getting the Nespresso Aeroccino...I would probably look at another brand...I have not had very good luck using it for cappuccino's as it seems to hang regularly (note, that I only drink espresso's and make cappuccino's only when I must :)).

Here is why I love my machine:
* Easy to use machine
* warming area great for espresso lovers
* Easy buttons on top ensure consistency
* Looks fantastic on my counter
* Crema is second to none!!
What I don't like:
* Nothing...it is an amazing machine

Another disappointed customer 1 out of 5 stars.
4 of 5 people found this review helpful.

This is my second Krups espresso machine. My kids put coffee grounds in the water chamber and killed the first one. How could I have known that this second, "improved" machine would be so INFERIOR. Why did Krups discontinue the older model???

1.The new steam nozzle is NOT EASIER to clean.
2.The single knob to control steam or coffee is HARDER to use since it requires reaching around the machine while steaming.
3. The grounds basket does not close tightly and high pressure steam escapes during the espresso making.
4. The attached lid and carafe unit dribbles when pouring and can not be turned over to dry properly on the drying rack and certainly can't be put in the dishwasher.
5. None of the parts from my first Krups espresso machine are compatible with the new machine. The coffee carafe is too tall, the grounds basket is too big and the steam nozzle is completely different.

Editorial Review:

Most of the higher priced espresso makers use pump driven mechanisms to deliver espressos. If you're seeking a simple one-cup espresso or cappuccino, the steam-driven espresso machine is more affordable and requires less maintenance. With no pump, it's more compact. Yet there's virtually no compromise in flavor and aroma. Sized for use at work or home, the Krups XP1020 may just be that simple little espresso machine you've been looking for as an easy alternative to typical American coffee.

Starbucks Sirena is Amazing! 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

Ok - I spent hours pouring over reviews of machines before purchasing the Sirena. Because I wanted to do everything just right, I took an hour after the purchase to set it up following the extended instructions word by word. (For more experienced users, the quick setup would work and you would have your drink quick!) My first latte was amazing! I didn't even use syrup - it tasted great.

My initial concern: long time to brew espresso/confusion as to the purpose of the "self-tamper". It took a long time for my shots to pull, mostly just dripping. So, I reread thoroughly all the Amazon reviews (much better than those on the SB website) and found that:

FIRST - those with major issues probably had faulty machines or it was user-error. (no offense)
SECOND - there is some trial and error required for grind, etc.
MOST IMPORTANT - if your shots pull slowly (drip) simply POKE A LARGER HOLE IN THE RUBBER GASKET (self tamper).

Although I tried removing the self-tamper completely as some suggested - it produced zero creme. By simply using a sewing needle to open the hole a bit more, my espresso flowed smoothly out of the portafilter in seconds and it had the most beautiful creme. I AM THRILLED! I tested the heat of the straight shot and it was quite warm - but when added to frothed milk at a temp of 160 or more - it was the most delightful latte I have ever had - definitely rivals that of SB!

This machine is great for quality espresso, quality froth and good looks.

Oh - one more thing - I do agree with other reviewers that the need to drain the excess water from the steam wand before steaming is annoying, however, I have a system. Here is my method:

1. Turn on and warm up, meanwhile warm your mug with hot water
2. Once machine is ready, run 2 shots of water through to heat up the portafilter (I have the two most perfect glasses I use to hold the shot - they are tall slender juice glasses that fit perfectly under the portafilter)
3. Leave the portafilter connected while steaming/frothing milk
a. use one of the juice glasses (or another tall glass) to collect the excess water from the steam wand before steaming milk in stainless steel pitcher.
b. steam/froth milk to at least 160 degrees. I am able to steam first, then froth the top or visa versa. The frother is great!
4. Set milk aside or on warmer (the warmer isn't that warm, so don't count on it for "heat")
5. Remove hot portafilter, wipe out extra water/grounds and fill for one or two shots
6. Replace portafilter and choose your shot size (the time it took to add your espresso grounds is exactly enough to rewarm the machine)
7. Pull your shots, pour into mug and add milk immediately.

**Starbucks trains that you should add your milk to shots within 10 seconds for best results. That is why frothing first is important!

I have it down to a science now after just owning the machine for 4 days. If I learn anything new, I will update/edit my review. I think reviews are so important for others considering a product or having problems. They sure helped me and I hope I helped someone else!

God Bless and Happy Latte!

Editorial Review:

The big act following the famous Saeco Aroma semi-automatic espresso maker is Magic. Magic Cappuccino espresso and cappuccino machine is named for its ability to brew flawless aromatic espresso time after time with just the touch of a button. It makes an espresso expert out of anyone with the pressurized brew filter that magically corrects for any type of coffee grind or insufficient tamping. The newly redesigned Magic Cappuccino is a great favorite among coffee lovers who like the convenience of single serving espresso pods as well as fresh ground coffee. And all this is in a compact efficient size that will fit under any cabinet and look great. It has a 15 bar pump system to insure excellent crema, easy to use control switches and indicator lights, pressurized portafilter for ground coffee), an ESE espresso pod adapter (Illy compatible) , removable water tank, durable stainless steel boiler, drip pan, cup tray and cup warming plate. Though it has a large capacity 68-oz. Water Tank, it is magically only 9.5"W x 11"Dx14"H so it fits on any countertop.

Saeco's Magic introduces a built-in auto frothing system. Although this machine comes equipped with a Pannarello frothing wand for frothing milk for lattes and cappuccinos, the automatic milk frothing system yields perfect foam for any of your coffeehouse drinks. It works by drawing milk out of a container (like a pint of milk or small pitcher), combines the milk with steam, and then froths the milk which then is deposited right into your coffee mug. So now you can be lazy and still have your froth too!

Simplicity is at the core of Magic Cappuccino Plus from Saeco. On the left side of the front panel, you'll see a column of buttons and indicator lights. From top to bottom, these stand for the Illy pod brewing button, the Illy pod brewing ready light, the coffee brew button, the temperature ready light, and the steam button. Each button has an icon next
