I have used coffee presses for years and this model is great because the carafe is all glass and plastic - no metal. I can put the carafe (minus lid, which does conatin metal) directly in the microwave. I heat the water on high power for 4 1/2 minutes, add coffee grounds, stir, wait a minute, then press. Fast, Simple, Space Saving. I take this on campouts and on vacations, too.

We found this French Press, in new condition, at the local Thrift Store. We had no previous experience with this type of coffee maker. We boiled water, put 4 measures of a quality medium grind coffee in the bottom, poured in the hot water, waited a minute, then pressed the filter slowly to the bottom. This method is "idiot-proof"; tasty coffee and minimal fuss. Nice too, is that it takes up little space. It's going on our boat.

There are far nicer and better performing devices on the market. This one cracked while washing in the sink. It had no secondary filter (usually near the spout attached to the lid) so some pretty large coffee grounds came floating out. It also had a poor fitting plunger. I ended up with the BonJour Hugo 8-Cup Unbreakable French Press, sold here at Amazon. If you don't like the plastic, go for any metal press by Bodum, but avoid the glass models-- again, they will break given handling during cleaning.

This french press is great! The ceramic composition keeps cafe hot for quite a while and it tastes great! No more drip coffee makers for me.

I bought 3 and ended up giving 2 of them as gifts. I use it every morning and plan on taking it along when I travel. Great color selection, decent price.

I loved using this press, but after 2 months I noticed it had a hairline crack in the bottom that went all the way through. The crack continued to spread so I returned it to the store where I bought it and got a refund. I hope that was an isolated incident.
