This WAS a great kettle, until it broke after only 10 months. The unit now constantly turns on and off and takes forever to heat the water. No wonder Amazon sells a REMANUFACTURED version of this kettle. Since I had nothing to lose, I disassembled the unit to debug the problem. To my amazement, this $70 unit employed NO electronics, just a poorly constructed mechanical relay tripped by a bi-metal sensor. The contacts were fouled and the contact arms were warped resulting in very high resistance. I managed to get it working again, but who knows how long that will last? This is only the latest in a string of Cuisinart product failures. Their engineering, quality control, and customer service, once rock solid (we have a 1982 food processor that still works perfectly), is now terrible. I'm through with Cuisinart!

Common sense and comparison to the Rival (plastic) kettle 4 out of 5 stars.

The 675 kettle has been used at least once a day for several weeks now (after receiving it as a gift from my folks who love theirs). It has now replaced a plastic Rival kettle that the household has not been sorry to see go. Although the Rival had longterm daily use, the 675 is a welcome addition for mainly one big reason: no spills!

The 675 heats liquid quickly, yes, but I simply love the generous pour spout -- we hadn't realized how much we missed fast, dripless pouring. The Rival's interesting spout "hook" design keeps the lid locked down but regular spillage-control (despite slow pouring) was needed. Not fun.

In response to comments about lid warpage issues and steam/condensation damage to cabinets, as well as child-safety issues: I would not put what's essentially a water vaporizor under cabinets. Not even with the lid closed (the spout is open). The Rival also puts out lots of steam and, after over two years with two Rivals total, the cabinets are fine because the kettles have been used without cabinetry problems.

Regarding heat transference on the outside of the kettle: the 675's not insulated. Yes, it gets hot (about as hot as the toaster). The Rival is similarly hot (I'd say that the Rival's larger heat surface gets hotter than the 675 as the element makes direct contact with the water rather than being of an internal element design). As with other appliances in the kitchen (and bathroom) it would be wise to protect adventurous or unsupervised little hands.

Regarding warpage issues with the lid: hopefully any issues will be avoided. We tend to heat the water while the lid is open in order to help gauge when the water is ready. One nice point about the lid: it will stay open until it's closed purposely as the hinge is firm.

The unit automatically shuts off when the pot is lifted off of the base (sweet!). For some reason I'm still caught off guard by that. I'm used to turning dial and unplugging the Rival. Regarding the 675's on/off: it's either on or off, temperature variations can't be tweaked (the Rival has a control for simmering -- this one doesn't).

All in all it's a great unit. Not the most high-end kettle but certainly gets the job done.

Do you trust plastics? 2 out of 5 stars.

This tea kettle works fine for what it is-- a plastic tea kettle. The water is actually heated in a plastic container, and you can smell the plastic in the steam coming off-- at least for the first dozen fillings, which is all I have tried. Given the many known and unknown health effects of compounds coming from plastics, do you really want to drink the water that it heats?

I have owned one of these for years. It still actually works, but developed a small leak, so it lives out in the garage now where I use it for heating water for the dogs meals. I had to buy another for my kitchen. It heats water faster than a microwave and heating water is all I use it for. I guess the fact that I replaced the old one with the same product speaks for itself.

Having had two electric tea kettles break within a month, I went shopping for a new one. Of the three brands I looked at in the department store, including this one, all were manufactured in China. However, I haven't regretted my choice. It's a bit slow coming to the boil when full, and the button knob on the lid is rather small, but aside from those niggles, this is a nice unit. It has a brushed steel finish and is a bit on the heavy side even when empty, but I don't see that as a disadvantage as it can't be easily knocked over and it boils up quietly.

The power is supplied to the solid round base on which the kettle sits, so there's no cord attached to the kettle itself. The element is hidden in the base of the kettle, so there's no fussing with de-scalers and the inside of the kettle is easy to clean. A removable filter sits in the spout and the handle does not get hot. There's a see-through filler window on both sides of the unit, making it suitable for left- and right-handers.

All in all, good value for money.

I bought this Hamilton Beach electric kettle to replace one that died. It's big and holds lots of water for multiple servings--good. It's noisy and because of the narrow bottom, kinda slow to heat--bad. So far it's been reliable but it's just more of the same cheap made-in-China stuff we can't seem to get away from anymore--very thin metal, cheap stainless veneer, low quality plastic base. I predict this kettle will last a couple years, like the last one. At least it looks pretty sitting on the countertop.

I received this kettle as a gift 3 years ago, and it still works as well as it did when I got it - it's never had problems. Boils very quickly, holds a good amount of water, and works equally well with different water levels. My friend bought a different kettle after liking mine, and it almost boils over if you overfill it.

We have gone through three of these kettles in about four years. I like the design and the fact that it brings water to the boil much more quickly than any other kettle.

On the first one, the thermostat failed after a few months. Krups couldn't repair it and gave us a new kettle. On the replacement kettle, the switch (that's operated either manually or by the thermostat) failed after less than a year. Krups again gave us a new one. This third one had a broken lid after a few months. I bought a new lid earlier this year, which was available only in black, although the original one was white. It cost $20 including postage. Now this third kettle again has a broken thermostat and will not shut off automatically.

Overall, a very nicely designed product but very, very, very cheaply made.

Scalding HOT water! Lid is a safety issue 2 out of 5 stars.

I purchase this kettle a week ago and I loved it!...until last night. I wanted to have a cup of coffee before taking my son to his grandma's house an hour 1/2 away. I was getting ready and asked my son (age 12) to hit the button on my kettle so we can get going. I went into the kitchen and the kettle water boiling so I manually lifted the button, not realizing it was because the lid was not completely secure, I grabbed my coffee cup and lid, picked up the kettle to pour and a large gush of scalding hot water came out the top side of the lid over the top of my hand ouuuccchhhh!! I immediately ran it under cold water while screaming in pain. Unfortunately the water had already melted the skin right off the top of my hand and I had no choice but to go to the emergency room where they soaked it in sterile ice water, gave me pain medicine and a tetnus shot. Now I'm all bandaged up and can't go to work today. I just want to let people realize how dangerously hot this water can get and make sure the lid is secure when pouring and most importantly do not let children use this product!

I use this as a water kettle only currently, and I really like it so far. I've looked for a long time for an electric kettle that allows the water not to contact any plastic, and this kettle has this exact feature -- the interior is completely metal although the lid is plastic, but you don't have to use the lid if you don't want to. I also like the way the heating element is completely sealed and that the kettle detaches from the base (the cordless feature). This kettle's construction appear to be very good quality, and it has a 1-year warranty. Its water kettle function works great -- it boils 1 liter of cold water in about 5 minutes. It being a noodle cooker/ soup warmer is a cool feature that I might use one day. This item also comes with a collander and a cute little metal pasta fork to aid you with cooking noodles. I'm very glad I found this kettle.

The Bodum hot pot is a college favorite but now I've decided to get one for the family at home also. Heats water so quickly - we can do more than that single mug in the microwave for our tea! Won't boil dry either.
Very happy with the electric compact water "kettle".

I have nothing but praise for this mighty little electric kettle. Boil water super fast, and has a very small footprint. Have had no trouble with it in 6 months+.
