A tea lover's must for Shabbat and everyday 5 out of 5 stars.

Having grown up in a household with a hot water tap, I'm used to having near-boiling water available at all times - except on Shabbat, when, a rabbi told my mother, the tap could not be used (years later, a different rabbi, who had a different understanding of how the technology worked, told me it is permissible!). So once I was on my own, some sort of urn or electric pump pot was a must. I bought this one to replace an old one that died, and am pleasantly surprised by the new features, including the instant dispense button and switch (although they can't be used on Shabbat either, as they make a light go on, but you can still pump out water by pressing the original spot), and the concave front, which allows your cup or teapot to nestle up close. The price is right, the unit works, and my only concern is that I'll run out of water before Shabbat is over! In fact, I just bought another one as a Mother's Day gift and presented it today (now it can be told!).

I bought the electric air pot to address a number of issues that needed attention: I wanted to minimize the use of the microwave as much as possible, and I wanted to replace a diet soda pop habit with more healthful drinks. I had an electric kettle, but it was plastic and could not keep water warm throughout the day. I used to have a regular kettle, but I have lupus with some cognitive issues, and that kind of forgetfulness just doesn't mix too well with stove top cooking. I trashed two regular kettles before I got that one through my head.

After getting this product, I am wondering what I ever did without it. I no longer worry about carcinogen exposure from heating water in plastic. The air pot has a nonstick interior, but all of the research I looked at indicated that if there is any risk from unscratched nonstick surfaces, it happens only at temperatures over 350 degrees. Water boils at 212 degrees. Additionally, the interior of the air pot is well-constructed, and there doesn't seem to be any way I could possibly scratch it unless I used a fork or steel wool on it.

It keeps the water a good temperature for most teas, for soups, for getting a head start on pasta or rice, and for making coffee with a french press. The water tastes much better than it tasted after boiling in my plastic kettle. I have added an appliance timer to turn on the airpot before I wake up in the morning so that I do not have to wait for my first caffeine of the day. Zojirushi makes more expensive models that take care of the timer aspect, but I didn't want to spend the extra money.

What I did spend was not too much more than I would have for a non-plastic electric kettle (which, if you look at the reviews, might very well turn out to have plastic parts that have contact with the heated water) that was safer than a regular electric kettle, that was more convenient than a regular electric kettle, and that is already saving me money. I don't drink diet soda anymore, and I don't waste old, cold coffee or tea. I can make what I need as I need it, because the hot water is always readily available.

Months later, I am using the airpot every day. It works perfectly. In addition to using it to make coffee and tea, I use the hot water to get a head start on steel cut oatmeal, pasta, rice, soup (wait, that's not a head start - that's the whole thing), just as I was when I first bought it.

However, I have also started using it for non-food applications! I had no idea. Hot packs for sore muscles, in my mop bucket to clean the floor, the extra heat makes a huge difference.

Finally, I have not had any need for this information, but I was contacted by someone who read my review about finding replacement parts. According to Zojirushi's website:

"Replacement parts may be ordered from our online Zojirushi Store or from our Customer Service Department by calling 800-733-6270, M-F, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. PST. Please have the model number ready when calling."

LOVE IT!!!!! I have this one in my office to make Ramen Noodles. I put the water in, It boils in under 2 minutes, I add noodles and presto, I have lunch in under 4 minutes. I've been using this for about a year now and it still looks and works like new. All I do is rinse it out as soon as I am finished eating. I can't imagine having anything that would be more convenient or reliable.

I have been using this product several times a day- almost daily- for extended periods of time and it has worked like a champ. The only reasons I didn't give it five stars is because: 1. The spout tends to dribble down the side a bit when you go to pour it out - maybe it's just me, but I don't feel I should have to experiment in finding the "optimal pouring angle". 2. When I go to turn the tempurature down to the off position I will not only hear a click (no problem) but will see a flash through the water container. While I have been hit by house current before (and worse) I really don't consider it a hobby so this has me a little anxious. Maybe some other user can provide information to see if this is common with this unit or not.

Bought this Kettle because my Krups kettle broke. I was a little disapointed at first because it is true that it is hard to see the waterline when you fill the kettle, I did not like the handle so much but I got used to it and it boils my water quickly , that's the most important part ,it looks cool ,I really like it now .

I just like the design, it looks lovely in the kitchen, (my kitchen is white and modern so it matches perfectly). It does have flaws, the main one being the lid. I have had this kettle for about twelve years now and I am finally having to replace it for a new one. The lid broke several years ago and we just got into the habit of holding it in place while we poured out the water. (I did not know until I read here that the lid could be replaced). The other flaw is not being able to tell exactly how much water is in the kettle and if there is not enough it will not heat up although it seems to go through the motions, but when the water comes out it is still cold! We got used to the feel of the kettle eventually and knew instinctively by its weight whether there was enough water in it to make the number of cups we needed. The lid needs to be redesigned and I thought after twelve years that there would have been an improvement, but it looks as though it is still the same. Anyway, I have just ordered another, it is a great looking little thing and apart from the lid is very robust.

I bought this kettle to replace a Capresso one, which I liked but it did not last long -- the handle broke off at the top just when garantee expired. I also hoped that this kettle will solve the problem of bad chemical smell apparently coming from the silicon or plastic seal between glass and metal heating element. Alas, this kettle has the same problem as Capresso! I hope smell will disappear as it did eventually in Capresso. Also, I was a bit disappointed that it took 7-8 min. to boil max. water -- longer than Capresso, I thought, but maybe I am forgetting. Another annoying feature -- the package said "fast and quiet," but it was neither. It was quite noisy, much noisier than Capresso. And don't even think to fill this kettle with more water than max -- even that was too much: the boiling water was splashing so violantly, I was afraid it would spill over, but luckily it did not. But the next time I'll use less water than max. With all this said, the kettle did its job, turned off reasonably fast, and pouring was easy -- you don't have to open the lid as in Capresso, and the steam did not come close to my hand. The kettle looks and feels very sturdy if not as elegant as Capresso. So, I hope it will last longer. But the next time I probably will go with a metal kettle, although some of them I saw in stores felt quite heavy even when empty, but at least they probably won't have stinky plastic. So, I would recommend this product, but with caveat, and not to somebody who is concern about plastic and bad smell.

This was exactly what I was looking for. I'm not too fond of "no-name" appliances, but was willing to give it a go since the other reviews were much better than comparable name brand products which were significantly higher priced.

Works perfectly as described.

The large lid, though a little cheesy as others have said, makes filling very easy. Yeah, the element is exposed, so we'll all use our brains and not stick our hands in the pot (duh). This pot specifically says the coil is nickel, and not aluminum. I don't like to mess with aluminum cooking utensils, and am pleased.

The water-level window on the side is LARGE and easy to see. You can even watch the water boil.

The measure marks leave somewhat to be desired. They mark ".5 quarts, 1 quart, 1.5 quarts, 2 quarts." I would have preferred it mark off 2, 4, 6, and 8 cups instead. The marks are oval, so they don't really show exactly where "1.5 quarts" is. Also the max. and min. marks are sorta vague too. None of this is really a problem, but just a slight annoyance while I'm getting used to it.

The on/off switch is big and simple to use, the "on" light is big and easy to see, the handle is comfortable and easy to grip, the spout doesn't dribble, the pot slips easily onto its base, the auto cut-off turns it off almost immediately after the water reaches a full boil, the safety switch doesn't allow the pot to be turned on when the pot is dry (unlike our old Sunbeam), and value of being cordless cannot be overstated.

I followed the instructions to "season" the pot before using it (run a full pot of fresh water four times before the first use). The first run smelled strongly of plastic, but subsequent pots were odorless, and there is no lingering plastic smell or taste.

Five stars. What more can I say?

We graduated from a Zojirushi "vacuum" pot where you have to press on the top to dispense. At first I thought the electronic dispensing was a gimmich but wow - it is really worth it. Three temp settings are nice as is the temp readout so you know when the water is almost ready.

I wonder if the insulation is as good as our old one as it seems warmer on the outside. The other possibility is that it didn't have as high a temp setting.

Personally I would have liked a different appearance. Plain white perhaps or silver / stainless. That's my only complaint.

The Bodum hot pot is a college favorite but now I've decided to get one for the family at home also. Heats water so quickly - we can do more than that single mug in the microwave for our tea! Won't boil dry either.
Very happy with the electric compact water "kettle".

I have to add this review, just to address the concerns of longevity which I read about in some of the other reviews. I purchased this kettle in August 2003, and I have used it *at least* once a day since then for my daily fix of tea. I must say, for a $30 little plastic kettle, I could never have expected this kind of performance. But almost 6 years later, it's chugging along every day, and it's now being used 3-4 times a day, by my roommates as well. One other reviewer is right, there are some rust spots on the heating element, but I think that is to be expected on any metal heating element. Moreover, nothing that could not be removed with some sort of descaler, I would expect. As the name of the product indicates, it *is* a mini-kettle - I find that the 'Max' level marker corresponds to about 3 mugs of tea or coffee. So probably not the kettle of choice for a large family or household. But for an office, college dorm room, or any other such scenario, this is a fantastic fit. The functionality works perfectly - shuts off every time, boils very quickly, and endlessly reliable. Fantastic buy! A no-brainer.

I use this canner approximately twice a month. I bought it about 6 months ago and it is a wonderful product. It's nice that there are no moving parts to replace. I don't need to worry about the dial guage being calibrated. The canner comes with an EXCELLENT recipe book! The shrimp creole and beef stroganoff are absolutely delicious and easy to make. My husband was really impressed.

I highly recommend this canner, along with the 22-quart from the same company. They are both excellent and should last a lifetime. This canner is an excellent value as well.

I have had to order two replacements as the first one cracked when filling with ice from an ice dispenser on outside of refrigerator door. Obviously, the plastic/material the pitcher is made out of can't with stand much "pushing" on it's side. Ordered second replacement, so far it hasn't cracked, but I now fill it with the "pushing" closer to the pour spout. To prevent cracking, I suggest filling with ice from another container, rather than directly filling from dispenser on outside of refrigerator door. It's a great product, just needs to be made out of a more durable material. I give it 3 stars due to this.

I love the tea maker but they have totally, and completely undertested its stress potential in a home. I have have 4 of these tea makers now and all, I repeat, all the containers broke and or cracked before anything was wrong with the main unit for brewing the tea. The company also does not make it easy to buy replacements cheaply and easily as you should be able to buy more than one pitcher at a time so you are not left with company and stranded not being able to make any new ice tea with your Mr. Coffee due to breaks in the pitchers. They need to improve their product as it would not be hard nor expensive to build a better container.
