I have been using this about 3 times a year for the last couple years, and now the plastic lid is broken. The little lip that pushes down the mechanisim behind the handle that allows it to run broke off and I even tried to superglue it but it broke right off again. So now I can't use it even though the motor still works fine. I either have to find a new lid or just toss it. What a shame.

I only had this food processor for a short time and then, while making hummus, the spindle stopped spinning. The motor worked, but blades didn't turn. So, I opened the case (which was a nightmare because of one "specialty" screw) to see if something had disconnected. In it, I found that a metal gear was turning a plastic gear. Not surprisingly, the plastic gear was shredded and, therefore not spinning. THIS THING WAS DESIGNED TO BREAK! That's the only reason I can come up with for such a stupid design.

I purchased this KitchenaAid model a few years ago and it is still running strong. But the bowl AND lid are cracked and, after calling KitchenAid, I find that this model has been discontinued and parts are now unavailable. Customer service had no answer except to offer me a "discount" on a new processor!

Anyway, this thing seems plenty capable of processing soups, sauces, nuts - pretty much anything, and it's a good size, too. Only thing that seemed to stretch it was a 2-loaf batch of lemon poundcake which filled up almost the entire bowl. But it still mixed fine. The slicing/shredding disc inserts are great for grating carrots and cabbage for coleslaw and for shredding large amounts of cheese (hint: shred lots of cheese and stash it in the freezer - it keeps for a long time!)

Unfortuantely, you purchased a cheap imitation food chopper. If you had purchased the Pampered Chef Food Chopper you would have paid more but it would have been well worth it. The Pampered Chef Food Chopper chops food with ease. It has durable stainless steel blades which uniformly chop veggies, nuts and even cooked meats in seconds. You can chop onions without a single tear. It also has a flexible cup which doubles as a chopping bowl. It's handier than a food processor and much easier to clean. It simply pops apart and you can rinse it clean in minutes. It's even dishwasher safe but rinsing it quickly is just as easy. Sometimes you just get what you pay for and unfortunately you got something that may look like the real thing but isn't. I love my food chopper from the Pampered Chef. It's worth every penny!

i have had all the food processer there is and only the braun food processor has been able to fill all my needs as a cook i grate lots of freah coconut for my cakes and then i grate lots of very hard cheeses. i could name many that don't get past the first or maybe second coconut much less all the cheeses. i live in venezuela so the current is ok for our country. i can't say enough good things. and now we can't get them any more here in venezuela, so it's import time again. 5 star is not enough.

I have an older (very) USA model. It is GREAT. I hope it never gives out. Workhorse.
Only one thing, blender is small. But, use larger side and works just as well. FOR EVERYTHING YOU CAN IMAGINE...

Too bad no longer manufactures for USA.

I also have a very old Braun (5-in-1 kitchen center), and I have been able to get replacement parts as needed...I broke the bowl once, and also needed a new "ice crushing" blade. If the motor gives out, I may be out of luck. Here's hoping Braun will figure out how to make this fantastic product for US use again.

Bought this b/c of the metallic finish. Always left chunks of food, and now it is leaking from the base. Nothing seems to have cracked or broken . The plastic ring appears fine but the blade seems to be loose after a year of minimal use.

This is, without a doubt, the single worst kitchen appliance I've ever owned. The thing has no power at all. Blending dry ingredients to make a cake, forget about it. Blending fruit to make a smoothie, forget it, the blade can't cut through. Forget about crushing ice, the chucks it left were huge. I purchased mine at Costco for over $60 and I wish I could sue the company for selling what is clearly a defective and just plain pathetic machine. AVOID AVOID AVOID!

I purchased this because it was on sale at the local hardware store, and I needed a blender. The first one burnt out after two smoothies. Returned it for an exchange (every manufacturer is entitled to the occasional defective unit) but that one stopped working too, after three smoothies. No ice crushing or anything heavy involved - the motor just can't handle anything thicker than water without burning out. I only gave this one star because zero stars is not an option. Perhaps the worst product I've ever purchased.

I took it back for a refund, vowed never to buy another Black and Decker product, and bought a very nice KitchenAid blender.

The item doesn't work at all, is very light plastic that doesn't look like it would last very long if it did work, and according to the instructions "it does not chop ice, does not whip cream, does not beat egg whites to a desirable volume, does not grind coffee beans or spices with a high oil content, does not slice or shred hard-cooked eggs, marshmallows or soft cheeses".

Not impressed:

I bought this chopper to replace my B&D 2 speed that I had for 5 years. (the bottom of the container broke) I read good reviews on the Food Chopper and decided to purchase. The first time I used the product it turned my veggies into mush. I tried again on a slower speed and again soup. I tried small bursts of slow speed and still all squishy. I tried small bursts of fast and again mush. I tried different foods as well and it just didn't chop. I read the instructions, just in case operationn of a small chopper has changed in 20 years.

My B&D chopper would only turn the food into soup/mush if I made it that way by keeping the highest speed on for several minutes. It always chopped the food evenly too. Unfortunately, B&D doesn't make that model any more. I would not recommend this to anyone I know.

Unfortunately I waited to long to return the item (32 days) so I am stuck with the "soup-maker".
