After the ice cream maker's chilling chamber has been in the freezer for about 18 hours, the liquid in its walls will have frozen thoroughly. Put the paddle in the chamber, lock the transparent cover in place, and turn on the kitchen machine. It's that easy. Add extra ingredients through the opening in the cover as the paddle turns -- Chocolate chips, chopped fruit, nuts, and other special ingredients can be added toward the end. The chamber chills ingredients to whatever consistency is desired. Dense treats are harder to make because the paddle churns in air. Storing the chamber in the freezer consistently ensures a frozen confection is only 20 to 30 minutes away. Clad in virtually unbreakable plastic, the ice-cream maker is dishwasher-safe except for the chilling chamber. A plastic spatula for scraping the chamber, a wood cone for mixing ingredients, and an instruction booklet with recipes are included. Makes 1 quart of ice cream, sherbet, frozen yogurt, or frozen drinks in about 30 minutes (salt and ice are not necessary).
